Trevi Fountain Underground Aqueduct and Spanish Steps Tour

Description
This is a small and intimate group walking tour of no more than 12 people. We'll start by the Spanish steps, where you'll learn everything about them and why they're called like this (you'll be surprised!). By the Spanish steps we'll meet the first fountain of the tour. This is where we'll begin a journey through the aqueducts of Rome! In fact this fountain is still fed today by an ancient Roman aqueduct built in 19BC! From here we'll follow the aqueduct which is, for the most part, underground. And by casually walking through this itinerary we’ll find parts of the aqueduct appearing between the modern buildings. We'll follow the aqueduct until its monumental end: the Trevi fountain. But we won't stop here. We'll get away from the crowds, turn the corner and discover the underground water reservoir that the ancient Romans built over 2000 years ago! During this walking tour you won't just see the specific site, but learn also how modern Rome was built around the ancient ruins.

Itinerary
This is where we'll meet and start our tour! You'll learn what Piazza di Spagna is for the Romans today, as well as the history of how it became the way it is today. The glamorous side of Rome since ancient Roman times until today. Here you'll also learn that the Spanish steps.. are not Spanish at all! You'll be surprised to learn why. Then we'll learn about the iconic fountain of la Barcaccia, which is still today fed with an ancient Roman aqueduct of over 2000 years! And this is where our journey through water starts..
This column is tied to the local traditions around Christmas time
Here we'll start seeing parts of the aqueduct visible overground, as well as a mysterious door right next to it..
This is a department store.. but we're not here for shopping! You'll learn that pretty much anything in Rome can turn into a museum, because the modern city is literally built on top of the ancient one! In fact underground this mall we'll get to see the ruins of the only ancient Roman aqueduct still functioning today!
The iconic Trevi fountain, one of the most photographed spot in Rome. But how many people know of its significance? You'll learn of the legends and stories which go hand-in-hand with the fountain, since ancient Roman times until today.
Here you'll learn where all the water of the Trevi fountain comes from! We'll walk underground to explore the ancient water tank of the aqueduct built in 19BC! This place is such a "lasagna" of history, with layers of buildings and homes of people that have lived here through the centuries. People just like us today..

We chose this as our tour after the flight (to try and stay awake). It was a great decision. The tour is both indoors and outside giving you a break from the weather (it was really hot). The guide was thoughtful and knowledgeable.

We were running late for the tour and the company called us. They helped us find the tour guide while still starting on time. It was a great tour to choose on a travel day, at it was both indoor and outdoor.

Federica our guide was amazing . She is extremely knowledgeable in the facts about our specific tour and even though it was very hot out , she tried to make it as comfortable as possible being conscious of trying to get us in the shade as much as possible . I would book this company in a heart beat next time we out in Rome .

Fascinating tour with Sofia. We learnt so much, but also loved her humour. A thoroughly enjoyable couple of hours, after which we understood so much more about the history of Rome and the water that runs beneath it. Sofia also introduced us to a wonderful ice cream shop enroute.

We had a fantastic tour with incredible insights and the unique opportunity to go underground beneath the Trevi Fountain to discover the ancient aqueduct and see where the water that feeds the fountain comes from. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, engaging, and shared fascinating details that you wouldn’t learn on a standard visit. The tour was made even better with a visit to the Spanish Steps, offering a deeper understanding of Rome’s history and the hidden stories behind some of its most iconic landmarks. Highly recommended for anyone wanting a more memorable and authentic experience of the city!
