The Vatican Museums are considered among the most important in the world and their visit is essential and indispensable for anyone who comes to Rome. Here the Popes have, over time, collected and preserved some of the greatest masterpieces of all time and the most valuable witnesses of the past. This was an outstanding tour. In every respect. Our guide Frederica found us at the pre-arranged meeting point a little before the agreed upon time. She then maneuvered us into the correct queue for our time slot. There so many queues, each with a lot of people. It was pretty overwhelming. When we approached security, our passports were scrutinized by the authorities to ensure the names matched those on our tickets. My spouse uses a walking cane, and Frederica was very attentive to adjust the tempo accordingly. She is a wonderful communicator with a background in education and history and possesses an encyclopedic knowledge of the artworks in the Vatican. She loves this place and it shows. She also was able to explain to us about the various additions/enhancements made over the ages throughout this massive complex. Tapestries. Sculptures in so many media. Paintings. Plunder. All of it acquired or commissioned over the centuries. When approaching the Sistine Chapel, visitors are reminded several times that NO photography is allowed in that space. Sigh. Guards on a platform are constantly shouting ‘No photo!’ followed by a request to be respectful & quiet. Frederica prepared us earlier on with photographs of some of the artwork in the chapel and what the various panels represent. It was so helpful. This is a special place and well worth the effort. We also got up close to the Pieta – absolutely breathtaking. We saw the tomb of Pope John XXIII (from the JFK era). For those of us of ‘a certain age,’ this is so meaningful. And we are not religious people. The papal altar used by the Pope to celebrate Mass is magnificent. We then continued to St. Peter’s Square. Frederica pointed out where the Papal apartments are; where the smoke emerges from during a Papal Enclave; the balcony where a new pope is introduced to the world; the platform used by the Pope for his weekly blessings. This vast elliptical square is surrounded by meaningful artwork. It’s all more than a bit overwhelming. Throughout our tour, Frederica ensured we were happy with the pace. She is an absolute delight.
Grazie Mille Sir. Federcia is such an expert Guide of the Masterpieces of the Vatican. We're glad you enjoyied those special moments.
Our private guide, Rosa, was simply amazing! She was extremely knowledgeable and very friendly. She really made an effort to understand what our interests were and she connected with us in a way that we will always remember! We give her our highest recommendation and hope to meet with her again when back in Rome!
Grazie Mille!!! See you soon back in Rome.
Valerio was incredible. Not only was he incredibly knowledgeable, excellent at communicating (in perfect English), passionate and energetic; the thing I appreciated most was his responsiveness. He made it very easy for me to get a wheelchair to help my mother throughout the tour and changed our itinerary to accommodate that and stayed in touch all throughout the run up to the day itself, making sure we knew exactly where we had to be and what we had to do. I would recommend Valerio for anyone considering any Roman tour.
