Itinerary
Take to the streets of Rome for a walking tour of the historic center with your guide. Soak up the atmosphere in Piazza Navona, as your guide unravels the story of Bernini's fountain.
This nearly 2,000-year-old building has the largest un-reinforced concrete dome in the world. Hear how it was built and why it has inspired so many other buildings, from St. Peter’s Basilica to the U.S. Capitol Building.
Stroll through streets made famous by films like “Roman Holiday”, stopping at the Trevi Fountain.
The guided walk of the historic city center takes you to see some of Rome's most impressive public sights.
Take a one-hour break for lunch (not included in price) with recommendations from your guide.
Afterwards, follow your guide to the Colosseum and head past the crowds to enjoy a guided tour in small groups. Hear tales of gladiators and emperors as you learn what life was like in Rome 1,000 years ago during a 1-hour tour of one of the world's most iconic sites.
Next, stroll to the Roman Forum to learn how it functioned as the beating heart of Rome’s all-encompassing empire. Instead of slogging through the crowds inside the Forum, your guide will lead you to a stunning overlook. If you selected the Best of Rome option when booking, your tour will end here.
Travel by private transfer to the Vatican Museums and skip the line to bypass long wait times. Enjoy a tour of the best of the Vatican Museums as you admire the Raphael Rooms, the Gallery of the Maps, ancient Greek and Roman sculptures. Enter the world-famous Sistine Chapel, one of the most acclaimed interiors of all time, almost entirely due to Michelangelo's incredible frescoed ceiling.
Inside the peaceful, Pinecone Courtyard you'll pass a spectacular bronze globe. It was designed for the Vatican by well-known Italian artist Arnaldo Pomodoro and copies of it can now be found all over the world, including Dublin, Tel Aviv and New York City.
The day ends with the highlight of your tour, which is, of course, the Sistine Chapel with its incredible frescoes painted by Michelangelo.

our tour guide was very informative, friendly and a pleasure to be with for the day. we learned and saw alot, would recommend
Our tour guide, olga, I believe was her name, was absolutely fantastic! She clearly knew her history and shared so many interesting details at every stop, along with extra information that made the experience even better. She spoke clearly, kept everyone engaged, and was very organized throughout the tour. It was an extremely hot day with a lot of walking, but she kept a great pace and made sure everyone was comfortable while still giving us an amazing experience. I was incredibly happy with the tour and so thankful we had such a knowledgeable and professional guide. If I could give 10 stars, I absolutely would! Highly recommend this tour.
It was a long day but great tour to see all the highlights of Rome. It was also great to get into the Vatican and Colosseum. Our guide Smaragada was great!
Amazing— Olga was a wealth of knowledge and did a great job of balancing information with interest to keep both adults and kids interested. Her efficiency and attention to logistics was much appreciated as we maneuvered through the busy summer streets of Rome. My only drawback would be to say that there were too many (18) in our group making it difficult to hear sometimes because of the distance and/or buildings between us all.
Excellent excursion, the guide Nick was the best! The day was very tiring but excellent if you want to see all the important things in Rome in one day!
This is an awesome tour. Vincenzo our guide is the most knowledgeable and friendly. Be prepared to walk approximately 7 miles but it’s the only way to explore Rome really in one day. You’ll see and hear about everything and will make you want to come back and visit with time
Sev did a great job. Excellent info for the day. We saw a lot in a short time with great history and information. Recommend.
Tour date May 30,2026 Booking with walking tours My experience with Viator and the Rome in a Day tour was one of the most frustrating travel experiences I have ever encountered. Our group consisted of four people traveling together. We had two separate reservations paid for with two separate credit cards. On the morning of the tour, our hotel arranged a taxi that never arrived. The hotel immediately called a second taxi, which arrived promptly, but delays caused by Rome’s metro shutdown that day resulted in our arriving approximately five minutes after the scheduled meeting time. While we were en route, we contacted Viator to explain the situation and let them know we were on our way. We did everything possible to communicate and make the tour. What makes this situation particularly unacceptable is that we later learned the tour group remained in the same piazza for approximately 30 additional minutes after our arrival. Despite being only minutes late, despite calling ahead, and despite the group still being nearby, we were refused permission to join the tour. The most disturbing part of this experience is that our friends, who were traveling with us under a separate reservation, were granted a refund. We were denied a refund for the exact same circumstances. Viator has never provided a reasonable explanation for why one reservation deserved a refund while the other did not. The inconsistent and arbitrary handling of identical claims raises serious concerns about fairness and customer treatment. Instead of working toward a reasonable resolution, Viator repeatedly hid behind policies and scripted responses while keeping our money. There was no accountability, no flexibility, and no genuine attempt to address the facts of the situation. This was not a case of customers failing to show up. This was a case of customers who communicated proactively, arrived only minutes late due to circumstances beyond their control, and could easily have joined a tour that had not yet left the area. The refusal to accommodate us was disappointing enough. The refusal to refund us while refunding others in our group under the same circumstances was inexcusable. Travelers should be aware that when problems arise, Viator may not treat customers consistently or fairly. Based on this experience, I will never use Viator again and cannot recommend them to anyone who expects reasonable customer service or equitable treatment.
If it is hot weather the afternoon is extremely warm and there is quite a walk from the collesium to the coach to get to the Vatican. I learnt so much and Rome is stunning but 36 degrees no air this is a hard trip
Literally a tour of Romes historical monuments. The travel guide was amazing. Forgot his name but he did the 06/18 tour. Very thorough, respectful, and understandable. Only recommendation is Prepare for the heat but definitely Worth the costs!
