The Courtyard of the “Pigna”, created from the 16th century area of the “Belvedere”
The Sphere within a Sphere" by Arnaldo Pomodoro at the Vatican Museums is a striking sculptural masterpiece that graces the Cortile della Pigna. This captivating artwork features a large bronze sphere with a textured, fractured surface, revealing a smaller sphere within. The interplay of light and shadow on the intricate patterns adds to its mesmerizing allure. Symbolizing themes of complexity and inner depth, Pomodoro's sculpture at the Vatican Museums stands as a testament to the convergence of art, spirituality, and profound meaning in the heart of one of the world's most renowned cultural institutions.
The Sistine Chapel takes its name from Pope Sixtus IV della Rovere (pontiff from 1471 to 1484) who had the old Cappella Magna restored between 1477 and 1480. It is known throughout the world both for being the place where the conclave and other official ceremonies of the Pope are held (in the past also some papal coronations), and for being decorated with one of the most famous and celebrated works of art of artistic civilization the frescoes by Michelangelo.
The largest Basilica in the world is also home to worldwide masterpieces like the famous Pietà by Michelangelo! it even houses an underground crypt for Popes, of which can be visited ( not available on Wednesday morning due to the Papal Audience) The Basilica has a big influence from Michelangelo and you can see his art work throughout. The Basilica was originally built above the tomb of the Prince of the Apostles, where the Pope visits every Christmas or Easter Time.

Our tour guide Anna Maria was very personable and knowledgeable. She met us at the exact time we were supposed to meet and greeted us warmly. While in the Vatican and St. Peter’s she shared a wealth of information and tailored it to our group. We would highly recommend this tour and Anna Maria!
I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel compelled to share our experience. Our family of six, ranging in age from 10 to 75, was genuinely excited to visit one of the holiest places in Christianity. Instead, we left deeply disappointed. Before we had even entered the Vatican, our guide commented that “Catholics aren’t humble people.” Throughout the tour, he repeatedly inserted his personal opinions about the Catholic Church, compared St. Peter’s Basilica to what Mecca represents for Muslims, and focused on criticizing various popes rather than presenting the history in a balanced and respectful way. At one point, while discussing religious artwork, he remarked that he would be “on the hell list” but refused to explain why. We booked this tour to learn about the history, art, architecture, and spiritual significance of the Vatican, not to hear a guide’s personal views on Catholicism. Regardless of anyone’s personal beliefs, visitors should expect an objective and respectful presentation, especially at one of the world’s most sacred religious sites. The experience was so disappointing that our family returned to the Vatican the following day on our own simply to reflect, pray, and experience the reverence and spiritual greatness we had hoped to find during the tour. The Vatican is an extraordinary place. It deserved a guide who would let its history, faith, and significance speak for themselves.

We had a private tour of the Vatican and it was excellent. Starting at 7:30am was perfectly timed, allowing us to avoid long lines and large crowds. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and provided fascinating historical insights throughout the tour. Vanessa was absolutely phenomenal! Her knowledge of the Vatican, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter's Basilica was impressive, but what truly made the experience exceptional was her ability to bring the history, art, and stories to life in a way that kept everyone engaged. The only way to see the Vatican - have someone make the arrangements and navigate the crowds for you. Raquel was amazing, knew exactly where to go, what line to be in, best spot to stand for great views. She is a wealth of information and gave us a thorough overview of the history of the Vatican, Pope’s, and the art treasures within the walls. She made sure we knew all things about the Sistine Chapel before we went in so we would understand what we were looking at, some stories, answered all our questions. This made the visit so much better than going alone. Raquel took us through St Peter’s and again explained what we were looking at. She then let us stay as long as we wanted to visit the church and square on our own. You can buy additional ticket to go up to cupola- 500 stairs - and you can also visit the crypt under St Peter’s on your own. We had a fabulous day, and wouldn’t dream of doing a tour of such significance without Raquel!
