Meet your archeologist guide outside the Colosseum and enjoy a short introduction to the area. Use a backdoor entrance and get access directly into the Gladiators’ Arena, not available to regular ticket owners. Get ready to enjoy the Colosseum from a very unique perspective.
Once inside, walk in the Arena floor through the notorious “Porta Libitinaria”. Feel like a Gladiator and journey back to the days of the Roman Empire with a professional archeologist. Marvel at this mighty wonder of ancient engineering and learn about the innovative techniques used to build it. Discover the political and social reasons that led to its construction and hear about the bloody games that took place within it. After your official tour ends you can either use your tickets to visit the archeological area of the Roman Forums and Palatine Hill on your own or with a guided tour (choose the option you prefer during your booking).
OPTIONALLY, you can join the guide to head towards the archeological area of the Roman Forums and Palatine Hill in another 1-hour guided tour. Choose this option during your booking. Here, you will immerse yourself in the ruins of ancient temples and will walk the paths of Emperors and Senators. Learn how this beautiful area became the beating heart of Ancient Rome. Hear about the Vestal Virgins and see their gardens and the pagan temple of the Goddess Vesta they served. Learn about the Basilica Julia and the penal system of Ancient Rome and its effects on Christianity. See the temple of Castor and Pollux and the Arch of Titus and learn about the sacking of Jerusalem. Discover the Senate House, where senators met to decide the fate of the Roman Republic and how that climaxed with the murder and cremation of Julius Caesar.
Walk the paths of the Roman Emperors while visiting the hill where the legend of Romulus and Remus places the foundation of the city: the Palatine Hill. Learn how it later became one of the most exclusive areas of Ancient Rome and enjoy breathtaking views over the Colosseum and Roman Forum. My wife and I had a great time on this tour. Our guide, Lars, made this "our" tour from the very beginning, and he was very informative during all of our stops at the Roman Forum, Palatine Hill, and the Colosseum. The "skip the line" feature of this private tour made us feel like VIP's, and we were able to see some amazing sites. We highly recommend this tour.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your detailed feedback! We are delighted to hear you and your wife enjoyed the tour of the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill together with Lars! :)
Francesca our Tour Guide was fantastic, so much knowledge about the Colosseum. She was bright and bubbly and made it fun. Appreciated her folder with photos and illustrations to enhance her explanation of various things we saw etc. She also accompanied us into the Roman Forum & Palatine Hill and explained briefly about that. We had no wait time and went straight through despite the long lines. All very organised by this Company - meeting place was clear. Also found the ear pieces very good and we were all able to hear Francesca clearly. A small group of 14 was definitely the best way to go.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts. We are so glad you enjoyed this experience with Francesca and hope to see you again soon on one of our other tours in Rome :)
We had a wonderful experience with Touriks and our guide Susi from A to Z. We came to the Touriks office in Rome because we were looking for a short-termed private tour in German. They were extremely helpful and managed to organize the tour we wanted for the next morning. Susi, our Austrian tour guide, met us in front of the colosseum and took us around for a 75 minutes tour. She was simply amazing! She was competent, kind, funny and so much fun to be with. Plus she has a wonderful way to engage the kids, who in our case really loved her and clung to her lips (they are 8 and 6 yes old). We all had a great time and highly recommend this private experience over a larger group, esp. when traveling with smaller kids.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts in such detail, we really appreciate it. It was a pleasure to welcome you to our office and we are glad you enjoyed this experience with Susi. We hope to see you again on one of our other tours in Rome :)
