Itinerary
Leaving Lisbon’s western suburbs and climbing into Sintra feels like crossing over into another world. This town is in a green mountainscape of palaces, country estates, parks and a medieval castle. In the centre, the Palace of Sintra was a residence for the Portuguese royalty, and it’s just one of many exquisite properties to win you over. Another is the enigmatic Quinta da Regaleira, the playground of a wealthy eccentric, or the Pena Palace and its fairytale muddle of towers atop a high peak. You can trek through woodland planted with giant exotic trees in the 19th century. Or carry on to the coast for beaches beneath sky-scraping cliffs, ot Cabo da Roca, at the very edge of mainland Europe.
The Palacio Nacional da Pena is one of the finest tourist attractions in Portugal and exemplifies the 19th century Romanticism style of architecture
The Castle of the Moors (Portuguese: Castelo dos Mouros) is a hilltop medieval castle located in the central Portuguese civil parish of Santa Maria e São Miguel, in the municipality of Sintra, about 25km northwest of Lisbon. Built by the Moors in the 8th and 9th centuries, it was an important strategic point during the Reconquista, and was taken by Christian forces after the fall of Lisbon in 1147. It is classified as a National Monument, part of the Sintra Cultural Landscape, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Our guide Ruben knows the history of Sintra and Portugal very well He enthusiastically shares this passion, he is very friendly and with special attention for children. We particularly recommend this guide which speaks good French A great experience on Sintra which will remain one of our best moments of our trip to Portugal.
We used knight rider tourism to tour the palaces of Sintra with our guide Ruben. He was a great, knew all the best things to see and all the quick spots to get tickets & avoid lines. He Was very knowledgeable of all the history in the region. We didn’t have a well researched plan and after breakfast got directions from the barista to the tour bus. We decided we wanted a private tour/transportation for a reasonable 20€/person (I believe the public bus round trip is 15€/person that takes you to all the sights). Note: Ruben was a one man show who drove us from place to place and gave us the history of the region and each place. He was not a tour guide that joined you in the property. (I personally enjoyed this method as it allowed us to spend as much time as we wanted in each place).
Disembarking (we were two couples) at Sintra station, we were a bit confused about what to do. Dozens of guides offered their services. We came across Henrique Susa (Knight Riders), a bit by chance. We immediately liked it and not for a moment we regretted our choice. As much guide as historian, he showed us the essentials of Sintra, without ever imposing anything on us, but with professionalism and efficiency. His excellent historical, artistic knowledge and perfect French made us spend an unforgettable day. Good advice, if you meet him, do not hesitate to choose it for a moment.
David was great! Not only did he make sure we got the perfect, made to order trip in Sintra- he offered tips on making the most of our trips to Coimbra and Porto as well!
Ines and Daniel are both great. We arrived on Sintra around 1 PM and we were able to enjoy the Pena Palace and Quinta da Regaleira. We were also able to watch the sunset at Cabo da Roca (Magical sunset) and then Daniel dropped us at the station in Cascais.
Even if you make your own visits, this company is very convenient and friendly. For my part, moving from Sintra station to the castle, then from the castle to a beach in Cascais. You are granted a vehicle with driver , it is at your disposal for the duration of the rental. In any case our driver was very friendly, speaks French and gave us advice. She knows every little nook and cranny.
Friday 13.4.18. We arrived at Sintra by train without a plan of what we were going to do and found Ines at the station. We immediately liked her and decided to follow her advice and go with her to the Pena Palace and the Regaleira Palace. Everything went well. Ines was very helpful and pleasant and always on time. We really enjoyed the ride and had a lovely day and wish we had been there a couple of hours earlier. Thank you Ines. Reno(D) and Maria(GR).
Ines was an enthusiastic and very engaging person. Met her at Sintra station which was not pre-planned. Good taxi driver for major sightseeing locations and happy to extend tour to Cape da Roca and Cascais. However we had to wait an hour after Pena( no mobile communication possible as her battery was flat )) and then after short lunch stop ( good recommendation ) we had to wait a further 20 mins for collection. There was not a lot of historical knowledge shared - perhaps we were expecting too much!
Jose was amazing! He drove us through Sintra whilst explaining the history of the area. Jose was very friendly and the van was comfortable (much better then the public bus). Jose surprised us with a pastry when we got back from one of the tours! I recommend this company to everyone! 5 star service!!
We took the tour on the recommendation of friends who had been there before and thought this would be a far easier way to get around the city, avoid walking steep hills, and see more of what we wanted to see. The tour worked out very well for all of these reasons. Our guide Jose was good but it was occasionally difficult to follow his explanations. He was very nice about showing us the places we wanted to see and also showing us some spectacular views we never would have enjoyed on our own.
