Description

On this 3.5hours small group walking tour, you'll walk between four main family-run stops, starting with a fireman's chorizo and a classic pork sandwich at a no-frills tavern, then on to savory pastries at Lisbon's longest-running Mozambican kitchen. A wall of street art turns a quiet Mouraria backstreet into an open-air gallery along the way, and inside a traditional fado house (live performance not included), steeped in Fado music history, you'll try a chilled seafood salad and a classic codfish dish with a glass of wine or beer. Groups stay small with 12 guests max, with plenty of room for questions and a good glass of wine along the way. Vegetarian options are available throughout with advance notice.

Itinerary

Pass by

Along this iconic street, you'll learn about the rich history of Moorish influence in Lisbon. Also known for its traditional restaurants and theaters, it reflects the city’s classic dining culture and vibrant atmosphere.

30 min

Step into a no-frills tavern where regulars have gathered for decades. You'll try a fireman's chorizo and a warm bifana pork sandwich, paired with a glass of wine or beer while your guide sets the scene for the tour ahead.

Pass by

Pass through Largo de São Domingos, one of Baixa's oldest squares, framed by a church whose history stretches back centuries. Your guide points out the marks that fires, earthquakes and revolutions have left on this corner of the city.

30 min

Duck into Lisbon's longest-running Mozambican kitchen, where recipes trace centuries of trade between Portugal and East Africa. Sample Portuguese samosas alongside a glass of wine or beer, a taste of the city's more surprising side.

Pass by

Walk through Mouraria, one of Lisbon’s oldest neighborhoods and the birthplace of Fado Music. Explore its narrow streets, rich multicultural spirit, and discover a back lane filled with striking murals, which celebrate local residents and the area’s living history.

45 min

Settle into a traditional Fado House with deep roots in Lisbon's fado tradition, where you'll try a chilled octopus salad and 'Bacalhau à Brás', Portugal's beloved shredded cod and egg dish, paired with a glass of wine or beer.

Pass by

Arguably one of the best viewpoints of the city, overlooking Lisbon’s downtown area and Tagus river (not included in all departure times).

15 min

A Portuguese food tour would not be complete without their most famous pastry, the pastel de nata! This custard tart with a crackling caramelized top is best enjoyed in one perfect bite.

Must Attend Food Tour!

David is a great tour guide! He’s patient, friendly, and funny and supplemented the food tour with nice historical facts and tidbits. He made sure to wait for the more elderly participants so that they did not fall behind, and even accommodated food preferences where possible. The portion sizes were generous. Come hungry! You will leave full, but not over-stuffed. Be prepared for stairs (but that’s Lisboa). 10/10 recommend!

A must do experience in Lisbon

Carlos was friendly and knowledgeable. I loved that he facilitated so that by the end of the tour we felt as if we had made new friends. We got a good taste of typical food in Lisbon and enjoyed the wines paired with them. The wine bar Pata allowed us to have a little taste of modern cuisine and well made local wines.
