Itinerary
The Ephesus Great Theatre is located on the slope of Panayir (Pion) Hill, opposite Harbor Street, and is easily seen when entering from the south entrance to Ephesus. The theatre is cut into the west slope of Mount Pion upon which the Acropolis was located. Hellenistic theatres are generally built on a natural slope of a hill in order to benefit from the gradient of the hill. The best example is the Acropolis Theatre of Pergamum which was constructed in the 3rd century BC, almost at the same time with the Ephesus Theatre. The excavations of the Great Theatre reveal that it was first constructed about 250 B.C, during the reign of Lysimachos. During the Roman period, it was enlarged and formed its current style that is seen today.
Ancient House of Virgin Mary
This famous temple is one of the seven wonders of the world, and is also known as Artemission. It was first built in lonian style during 560-550 B.C. by the Lydian King Kroisos. After being burnt down in 356 B.C. by a lunatic, it was rebuilt on the same foundations, but its height was extended by 3 m. This temple, which is also famous for its marble statues, is 55.10 x 115 in dimensions and was the largest of all temple, which were discovered during digs by J.T. Wood in 1869-1874, and David G. Hogart in 1904-1905 in the name of the British Museum, were taken to England.

Our experience was better than expected. Our guide was knowledgeable about the history and excavations of Ephesus. While the area was crowded with other tourist she guided us around expertly. The added site of Marys house and St. John’s church was a bonus. Both the guide and driver were professional making the trip one to enjoy. There was a problem with our receiving information for the details of the flight and taxi pick up, however the tour company recognized this and contacted our hotel and was able to talk to us . As a result of them going beyond, we received our boarding passes and information on taxi returns making the trip stress free.
The day tour was amazing! The tour guide is very professional, explain every details and histories of the breathtaking place, Ephesus. The tour guide knows where to take the best photos, and a hilarious guy. The driver & tour guide are very friendly, we learnt a lot about turkey from them too.
Wow. Just wow. Be ready for a lot of walking and a view that’s breathtaking. What an amazing experience. This tour company has been the best and I will always use him. The tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and great English. I can’t recommend this enough. Completely worth every penny and every moment
Ephesus was a fabulous archeological site to see. and we are glad we got to go. The transport to and from airport was really nice, and Alex, our tour guide was also great. We had a problem with our flight schedule. We had to leave for the airport at 5:20 AM to catch a 7:00 AM flight, and our return flight was scheduled for 7:20 PM. We did not need all of this time to see Ephesus; 2 or 3 hours is the maximum amount of time necessary. Apparently, this company scheduled this long, long day to work in a visit to a rug maker to try to get us to buy a rug. For this we woke up at 4 in the morning and sat in the airport for 3 hours that afternoon. Not a very nice thing to do. They should disclose this or at least give you an option before they purchase your flights. It would have been better, and much cheaper, to buy our own flights and book a tour guide for just the tour.
