Step into the grandeur of Piazza del Colosseo, a spacious cobblestoned pedestrian square that offers a captivating view of the majestic Colosseum and the nearby Arch of Constantine. Behold the awe-inspiring Colosseum - a glorious amphitheater, its monumental facade capturing the imagination of all who lay eyes upon it. Constructed over 2,000 years ago, the Colosseum, also known as the Flavian Amphitheater, was commissioned by Emperor Vespasian and completed under the reign of his son, Titus. Its magnificent structure, featuring a massive elliptical shape and towering arches, showcases the ingenuity and engineering prowess of the Roman civilization.

25 min

Your next stop in Rome's historic center will be Capitoline Hill where you will be treated to a panoramic splendor sweeping across the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill from a terrace known for the most picturesque view. It is incredible to imagine that the vast remains of temples and public buildings in the Roman Forum were once part of the most important center of the Roman Empire as it served as its political, legal, financial and religious nucleus.

15 min

The Circus Maximus is the large ancient stadium where chariot races were held for the pleasure of Roman citizens and royalty. Listen closely and you can almost hear the roar of the crowds and the galloping of the horses’ hooves as they race for the finish. Envision chariot races as seen in the famous film Ben Hur.

15 min

As you drive through Piazza Venezia, you will also have the opportunity to see from the comfort of your vehicle the Vittorio Emanuele II Monument that was dedicated to the first king of Italy. The monument is also blindingly white, making it highly conspicuous as it sits among the ochre buildings surrounding it. Its stacked, crowded appearance has caused it to be saddled with several nicknames from "Zuppa Inglese", "the wedding cake", and "the dentures", while Americans liberating Rome in 1944 labeled it "the typewriter", a nickname also adopted by the locals.

Once an ancient pagan temple of all Roman gods. Several centuries later it became a Christian church and burial place for Italy's kings and notable artists such as Raphael. It is the best preserved of all ancient Roman buildings, and perhaps the best-preserved building of its age in the world. The Pantheon is the oldest standing domed structure in Rome as well as in continuous use throughout its history. Entry fee to this site is € 5 per person to be paid on site.

15 min

Trevi fountain is the largest Baroque fountain in the city. Legend has it that if visitors throw a coin into the fountain, they will be assured a return to Rome. The current interpretation is that two coins will lead to a new romance and three will ensure either a marriage or divorce. Another current version of this legend is that it is lucky to throw three coins with one's right hand over one's left shoulder into the fountain.

15 min

The Spanish Steps is where you will find the famous 18th-century winding steps that connect the square below to the French church of Trinita dei Monti above. Below is the early 1600’s Baroque fountain, “Fontana Della Barcaccia”, or “The Fountain of the Old Boat”, a type of shallow boat popular for carrying wine to the port of Ripetta. The unique fountain is credited to Pietro Bernini, the father of the famous Gian Lorenzo Bernini.

Your Rome Tour will continue with a visit to the impressive St Paul Outside the Walls, the second largest basilica in Rome and one of the four Papal Basilicas - the highest-ranking churches in Christendom. The Basilica of St Paul Outside the Walls was given the name “outside the walls” as it was built outside the ancient Roman Aurelian Walls.

Excellent post-cruise tour!

We had a wonderful post-cruise tour with Stefano RomeCabs! Booking was easy - excellent communication. We were picked up at Civitavecchia, and driven to Umbria, where we did a private wine tasting at a family owned, organic winery. It was amazing! Our driver then took us to Orvieto. During the drive, he gave us some history and information, and suggested a great restaurant for lunch. After our visit to Orvieto, he dropped us off at our hotel in Rome. It was a perfect day. The driver spoke excellent English, was personable, funny, and informative. We will definitely book with Stefano RomeCabs again!

Stefano Post Cruise Private Tour-the only way to see Rome!!!

This is the best way to end a fabulous cruise and start your Rome adventure!!! We were met at 7:30 am by our driver Michele. It was so easy- you walk out the gangway, through the terminal for your luggage and he was waiting right outside the door. We drove from the Civitavecchia port to Rome and started our landmark stops right away. Rome was having a heatwave and it was wonderful to return to an air conditioned car with water at each stop. Our driver Michele was awesome! We saw everything we wanted- the Coliseum, the Pantheon, the Spanish Steps etc. Michele even made reservations for us at a lovely restaurant for lunch. After lunch, we drove to the Vatican where we were met by our tour guide named Rafaella . She was wonderful. We did not need headphones or earbuds, because she was right beside us every step of the way explaining in detail- the museum, the Sistine Chapel and the Basilica. This upgrade was more than worth it!! We ended with Michele driving us to our hotel. All I can say is this was worth every penny!! Stefano Rome Tours is a class act!! Thank you again Michele for treating us like family!! We will never forget your hospitality!!!
