Domus Aurea

Tickets booked through Tripadvisor were allegedly not available to the organiser. Although I could show the tickets and also got a confirmation from the organizer Once Upon A Time.. so we could not participate in the tour. Don't touch it. We were just in trouble.

Disappointing!

I booked the Domus Aurea through Tripadvisor/Viator. Tickets were sent via Tripadvisor via email. I was told that we should take it to the park entrance to meet the tour guide of Once Upon A Time. This also arrived on time, but we were then informed that we were not booked for this tour at all. The tour guide tried to clarify this through the provider Once Upon a time Travel. They also said we were not booked. I find this very strange, since I had received a WhatsApp the day before of Once Upon A Time Travel for the tour the next day. I also had the confirmation and the tickets. All other tour participants got their tickets there only our group did not. The tour should start at 10:00. At 10:07 we were refunded the price via PayPal without notice. On request we were told that we had received an email the day before, announcing that the tour was already taking place the day before. We never received an email. We could not be given a reply to the request to which email address this email was sent. The organizer can, I do not think, assume that we would have had time at the lecture. It was a great pity I was looking forward to the tour. Please keep your hands off this provider!!!

We all loved it

This was an amazing tour. You don't even realize all of this is here and our guide was extremely nice and passionate during this tour. It was really cool to see what it all looked like way back when.

Tour cancelled by operator

Met at the meeting point which isn't correct if you use the link that's sent to you. Tour operator said our tour was cancelled, no call, no email.

Domus Aurea,

Especially relevant was the experience with the virtual reality glasses "what it was really like in the time of Nero

A must-see in Rome

Didn't know what to expect but so glad I saw this. This is the original palace of Nero that the Romans then hid away by filling it in with rubble and literally burying it. The Colosseum was built on part of the palace. It's an astonishing place to visit and exceeded my expectations. If you have no imagination - maybe avoid - it does require imagination to think what it once looked like. My only criticism was that the entrance to the site is not clear. We ended up at Trajan's baths and a call to the tour operator didn't help sort things out. In the end, I took a guess and found the actual entrance.

Please improve directions to meeting point

Lack of directions to meeting point. Took us a frenzied 15 mins to finally locate the correct entrance. Once we were inside, the guide was very informative and the VR experience brief but entertaining. However, the experience was nerve wracking due to almost missing our allocated session.

Excellent tour. Fascinating site.

Excellent tour. Working through viator and paying their premium was the only way we could get tickets, as the official ticket website was sold out. Tour provider was very helpful in sending us tickets via Whats App when we had some minor problems and emailed her.
