La Fortuna Night Walk at Arenal Volcano

We are the only company that offers an authentic night hike inside the Rainforest, at the base of the majestic Arenal Volcano. In addition, we are the only local company certified as Family & Kids Friendly, ideal for family enjoyment and suitable for all ages. This experience takes place in a 100% natural environment, it is not a controlled environment. The animals live in complete freedom, so each walk is different and sightings may vary every night. Accompanied by an expert naturalist guide, we will explore the trails of Mirador El Silencio. During the tour we will look for frogs such as the hourglass, Blue Jeans and the iconic red-eyed frog. It is also possible to observe exotic insects, reptiles and snakes. With any luck, we can find mammals like sloths, possums or anteaters. To enjoy this experience safely, it is essential to use closed shoe.

Get into one of Costa Rica’s most iconic forests with our La Fortuna Night Tour, an experience that begins promptly at 5:30 p.m. and invites you to discover the magic of the rainforest at the foot of the imposing Arenal Volcano. During this guided walk you will learn about the geological history that shaped our country, the influence of volcanoes on the local ecosystem and the particularities of the climate of the area. As night falls, the jungle awakens and you can observe the incredible flora and nocturnal fauna of La Fortuna. Among the animals we usually find fascinating amphibians and reptiles such as crystal frogs, tree frogs, rain frogs, wet forest toads and the great cane toad; in addition to snakes such as coral, muzzle, stone hand and the well-known velvet. It is also possible to observe mammals such as coati, armadillos, possums, howler monkeys, white-faced monkeys and squirrel monkeys.

Recommend if you drive - have a reliable car or a rental that can go over some small rocks - the entrance is not far from the main road but a vehicle with good tires is recommended. The tour itself was good and safe especially with our guide. Overall the trails are marked and well maintained. Like any trail - especially in a tropical setting and at night - do not stray from the trail. Wildlife was good and what I expected. If expecting to see a mountain lion or predator like species - keep your expectations down quite a bit as our guide mentioned they exist but overall tend to stay away from humans PLUS not a good idea to confront one of those no matter how tough you think you are. Overall thought the tour was good. Depending on your budget - it may or maybe be a bit on the pricey side compared to others. But I suspect you pay for what you get.

Neifram was an amazing guide! He provided so much information that was interesting and you can tell he is very passionate about what he does. He also took some pics with a special lens so we could see the creatures from a very up-close perspective. I would say this was my favorite experience in Costa Rica so far. This night walk through the rainforest at the foothills of Arenal Volcano was exactly what I was looking for in La Fortuna. It offered a truly unique experience and a genuine connection with nature that exceeded all my expectations. Even though it rained during the tour, we still saw an incredible amount of wildlife. The guide was outstanding—extremely knowledgeable, patient, and attentive throughout the entire experience. What impressed me the most was the exceptional level of care and attention. He took the time to help everyone get amazing wildlife photos, never rushed us, and made sure everyone had the opportunity to fully enjoy every sighting. The small group size made a huge difference. It created a more personal, relaxed atmosphere and allowed us to appreciate the rainforest without feeling crowded. Without a doubt, this was the best immersive nature experience I had in Costa Rica. The night walk was fun experience to see reptiles and birds you usually would not see in the day. It was a great learning experience. We saw frogs, spiders, scorpions and one venomous snake. Guides were friendly and informative. Bug repellent highly recommended.

It was honestly one the best experiences we had in Costa Rica! There were two guides and the group was divided in two, so only my friend and I went with the guide which made it possible to see so many things and ask so mny questions. Our guide Eric was truly knowledgable and we learned so much! We were able to see many frog and toad species, stick bugs, leaf bugs, many lizards and snakes, and even a wolly possum which was so adorable. Truly amazing totally recomend!

Overall a really great tour! However if you are not in the front you can miss a few things. Still had a super great time and saw lots of animals.
