Description
We start visiting the hanging bridges of Mistico park. The guide is with you to help you learn about the ecosystem. Hiking over the bridges and trails you enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding forest, Arenal volcano and lake. From here we take a short drive to the park that's right at the foot of the volcano. We hike a trail through the big lava rocks from the '68 eruption Here we reach a viewpoint with amazing views of the Arenal volcano, the surrounding lava fields and the Northern valley. We then stop at a restaurant where they serve a wide variety of local-style dishes. Now it's time to get wet. A 20minuts hike through a jungle staircase takes you into a deep canyon to the immense la Fortuna waterfall. You can swim in the refreshing pool of the waterfall and hang around on the big rocks to relax for a while. Having experienced all of this you can choose if you want to join us on a visit to a small hot springs resort. To add to the fun we pour some typical style cocktails.

One of the best trips . Whole day trip but very enjoyable. Volcano hiking is not very easy but doable. Hanging bridges were excellent and amazing greenery everywhere! Saw monkeys, frogs, and birds. Waterfall was beautiful. It has more than 500 steps to climb down to go to the bottom of the fall. If you are unable to climbing you can still view the falls from the top. Lunch was good and were given pineapple as a snack which was delicious. One of the best places was hot springs. We were there for nearly 2 hours- several hot springs with water at different temperatures! Our guide was super friendly and knowledgeable. Overall a great trip!
Our guide, Rasta, was excellent, witty and knowledgeable. He made our trip worth the money. We spotted so many animals—frogs, snakes, monkeys, birds and slothes in Mistico park. Hanging bridges were definitely an adventure. Volcano mountain hike was a good adventure as well. La Fortuna waterfall was worth the walk. Hot springs were relaxing.
I absolutely recommend this tour, it included the main attractions near La Fortuna. Both of our guides were knowledgeable and professional. Gracias - Pura vida!
The tour was amazing! The guides Juan Carlos and Franklin were so knowledgeable and fun! The whole day was perfect! I would do it again! Thank you Red Lava Tours!
Really excellent experience with this tour led by Andy & Chris. It was a decent length hike with hills and the famous bridges, as well as around 500 stairs for the waterfall. Our guides worked hard pointing out wildlife and setting up a small telescope so we could see things closer. They offered up a lot of information about the animals and geology. We ended up at the hot springs for a soak & cocktail. Lunch was a typical CR lunch. Overall it was a good amount of activity and a good value for the money.
We had a great day visiting La Fortuna Waterfall, the Volcano & hot springs! We appreciated how well the staff communicated prior to the trip & was impressed with the fluency of English from everyone! The tour was physically engaging, but the staff encouraged keeping your own pace & really enjoying your time & views! Snacks were appreciated & timely: fresh pineapple after waterfall hike, and local coffee & cookies after the volcano hike! Lunch in between was well organized, served in a clean area with nice bathrooms & delicious local food! The order of events was perfectly timed & we loved the hot water soak at the springs with drinks included at the end of the day! A big thank you to Marcos, Axel & Roberto (our driver)! They were so friendly, personable & knowledgeable! We really enjoyed spending our day with them!
Awesome experience from pickup at our hotel until our drop off at the same. Renee David (our guide) was friendly, cheerful and especially knowledgeable. He took good care of the entire group (only 8 people were in our tour, which is much smaller than many of the other groups we saw that day). The walk-through the bridges was a wonderful mystical experience. Renée spotted so many animals that we would absolutely have missed if we had chosen to do this unguided. I can’t stress that enough. Unless you are familiar with where to look in these rainforests, you will not see much. Give up the idea of just entering the park and winging it. I highly recommend this tour and company but regardless, go with a guide. The waterfall was also a wonderful experience, but be aware it’s 500 steps down and 500 steps up. We are in our 60s and it wasn’t a problem, but you should be aware of it. Lunch was plentiful and tasty. The people with us were also great, but I suppose that’s just due a chance. We were very lucky to get a great group.
Rastas -the coordinator- was excellent!! He explained every detail and accompanied us at all times! We had a beautiful day, we could make the most of it
Beautiful day with Red Lava tours and especially with Rasta 1, the perfect guide: interesting, positive, pedagogue and kind! We loved the walk on the suspension bridges of Mistico and were lucky thanks to the vigilance and professionalism of our guide to have a beautiful glimpse of wildlife: birds (even a toucan), different snakes, spider monkeys, sloths. With its long view it allowed us to take wonderful videos and photos. The walk to Arenal volcano is instructive and finally the bath at the foot of the invigorating waterfall! In short, a beautiful discovery of Arenal Park.
Guido, Melony, and Rasta did a great job! This was a fun adventure, and a jammed packed day. I would 100% do this again. The drinks at the end in the hot springs were a nice touch, thank you. We went in the dry season, but the dry season in costa rica is really a "less" wet season; it is still wet in the "dry" season. To potential clients; Keep in mind this is a tropical environment and rain "can" happen. Be prepared. In the rain forest the canopy provides significant protection for minor down pours. There are a couple of structures in the hanging bridges park to protect from the rain in the rain forest, but dont bank on it. I wore a tee shirt and shorts, got mildly wet in the rain forest. The volcano has limited canopy in the 2nd half but beautiful views so if a storm comes get ready for a wet adventure! We got soaked at the volcano, but hey this was a risk I chose, and honestly if was fun walking in the rain. Also you may think the rain forest is necessarily a "hot" place, but it depends on a variety of factors such as elevation and time of year. There really isn't much reason to bring hiking boots to the waterfall just bring water shoes and leave your gear in the bus. Overall this is an amazing adventure and I highly recommend it rain and all. I would do this tour again in a heart beat. Thanks again Guido, Melony, and Rasta.
