Itinerary
Start your day by driving to Fátima, roughly 1h15 away from Lisbon, a city that developed after the apparitions of Virgin Mary back in 1917.
At Fátima Sanctuary you'll find an unique ambiance of devotion, whether you're a believer or not, it's impossible to feel indifferent at this place of great spirituality that receives millions of pilgrims each year. You'll have around 45 minutes free time to enjoy as you prefer.
Learn all about the legend of Virgin Mary's apparitions to three shepherd children in 1917 and what became the most adored devotion in Portugal: the one of Our Lady of Fátima.
Drive from Fátima to Batalha along the countryside. If it's already time, enjoy lunch in Batalha (not included).
Visit the best example of late Gothic (14th century) architecture in Portugal, the Batalha Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage site. It was built in commemoration of the 1385 battle (batalha) of Aljubarrota against the Castillians and its original name is in fact Mosteiro de Santa Maria da Vitória (Monastery of Saint Mary of the Victory).
Drive to Nazaré, a charming seaside town where local fishermen haul in fresh catches from the ocean. Don't miss the opportunity of tasting this fresh fish at lunch (not included), if you didn't lunch in Batalha.
Learn all about the legend of Nazaré and how the Virgin Mary had a miraculous intervention in 1182, which saved the life of the Portuguese knight Dom Fuas Roupinho (possibly a Templar) of falling down a 100 meter cliff, while he was hunting deer one morning in a dense fog. On this place it was built a chapel.
Nowadays Nazaré is also known for being the capital of big wave surfing, holding the record of the largest wave ever ridden (33 meters), in 2015. From Forte de S. Miguel you can see where the waver form and imagine the power of the ocean.
Drive to Óbidos, where you'll have free time to explore the narrow streets inside the walled village.
Your guide will be happy to share a Ginjinha with you, the tradtional liquor of this region.

Thx to Paulo and Jon for the great tour we had yesterday just amazing being at Fatima, Monastery, Nazare and Óbidos. Lunch was also delicious :)
It is my first time using this tour company at first I was hesitating a bit because I don't know if they are good but I really wanted to visit Batalha so I took the tour anyways. Our tour guide Rita was awesome she's very friendly and gave us a lot of information. I wanted to visit the Batalha Monastery longer and she arranged for us. I'm very satisfied with their service no disappointments.
When we see a well rated tour operator on TripAdvisor, we always wonder if they are actually that good, now that they have all the ratings. Some even loose their customers due to their arrogance. This is definitely not the case with the guys at Around Lisbon. From the time we booked our 2 vans for the trip, till the time we were dropped at our hotel, we were well treated. Our bookings were done well in advance, so we don't miss out on our particular date. Thanks to Gil, our bookings were very well handled and rightly communicated by email. Our vans arrived right on time, and we quickly left on our day long tour. Our guides Pedro and Juana were very informative and gave us enough time at all the places, without missing on anything. We were very happy to see the Black Madonna at Nazare from so close, thanks to the efforts of Pedro who gave a very interesting talk about its history. All the places in the itinerary were covered and my family had a lot of fun on this trip. I would like to thank the folks at Around Lisbon for this memorable tour and wish you all the very best in continuing this good job !
