Itinerary
The natural landscape of Sintra gives this mythical place a unique beauty. The green of the mountains and the blue of the sea merge, enchanting and inspiring its residents and visitors. The urban agglomeration, which constitutes the so-called Vila Velha, provides, due to its antiquity and heterogeneity, an exciting tour through the human past where one can feel and admire the different eras that governed the flow of history.
A retreat for writers, Monserrate attracted countless foreign travelers, mainly English, who extolled its beauty in travel reports and engravings. When Francis Cook, a wealthy 19th-century English industrialist and great art collector, visited the site, he was fascinated. From this passion was born a masterpiece of Romanticism: a visit to the Park and Palace of Monserrate.

Extremely friendly, personable and professional guide. Loved the pick up service at the Airbnb. Only constructive feedback would be that the guide provide detailed history of the site being visited.

The guide was amazing. He picked us up on time and drove us around center. We had a delightful time in the town, and then saw the Montserrat palace and got the history on that and everything and then had plenty of time to explore the gardens. Then we went down to Kosh And had an amazing drive along the beach in the ocean and through the little town and had lunch there. The guide left us before the lunch because the tour was over, but it was just the perfect day. He was knowledgeable and just really was in tune to our pace .

We visited Monserrate Palace as our final stop during our round trip of Sintra's palaces. Monserrate Palace grounds were leafy and cool, and the palace interior was beautifully designed, although small. The only disappointment was the rose garden, which was empty due to being out-of-season.

There is no building in the Sintra region more unique than the Palacio de Montserrat. The villa has a quaint Arabic design, surrounded by classic English gardens and located on the jagged hills of the Serra de Sintra. The Palacio de Montserrat, with its three towers, is Sintra's brightest building, inspired by Islamic architecture and the ideal of symmetry. Inside are exquisitely subtle lattice carvings, geometric patterns and a sense of presence in some luxurious Middle Eastern setting. The main building may be a cacophony of exotic ideas, but the garden is a small piece of England in Portugal's pleasant climate. The villa was commissioned by the Englishman Sir Francis Cook, and he wanted a garden around his villa in the classic English style. The villa is led by a formal lawn, a beautiful rose garden and a botanical garden consisting of 1000 different views.
The most romantic palace in Sintra: Palacio de Monserrate The Palace is surrounded by a huge botanical park with many species of plants from all over the world. The romantic style palace is not particularly large but is singular and beautiful. Also considered a world heritage site. Greenhouses, bridges, statues, waterfalls, arches, ponds and fountains in the park of Monserrate is not missing anything.
Great place. I loved visiting this space. The only negative point was the fact that the store, toilet and cafeteria were closed (unfortunately the price charged for the ticket was the same), something that cannot happen in such a special place as this one. For the visit I recommend that you bring food, water and a pipe to enjoy the superb views of the park and the palace. I highly recommend the visit.
