St. Peter's Square is a large plaza located directly in front of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican City, the papal enclave inside Rome, directly west of the neighborhood of Borgo. Both the square and the basilica are named after Saint Peter, an apostle of Jesus considered by Catholics to be the first Pope. At the centre of the square is an ancient Egyptian obelisk, erected at the current site in 1586. Gian Lorenzo Bernini designed the square almost 100 years later, including the massive Doric colonnades, four columns deep, which embrace visitors in "the maternal arms of Mother Church". A granite fountain constructed by Bernini in 1675 matches another fountain designed by Carlo Maderno in 1613.

The Capitoline Hill is the smallest among the seven hills of Rome. You can find it near the Roman Forum. Even though it is the smallest hill in Rome, it played a huge part in the religious and political aspects of Rome since the founding of the city center. During the middle ages, the Capitoline Hill declined and formed a new square for Pope Paul III. This square is presently known as the Piazza del Campidoglio. It was the famous architect and artist Michelangelo Buonarroti who was commissioned to do the existing design of the square.

A Must for Short Stays in Rome

Nicola was amazing. He was informative and fun and we had a blast. The five hours went by so fast. The vehicle was comfortable and the driver was awesome navigating so many people and tiny roads. I highly recommend this tour! Request Nicola! This is a must for short stays in Rome!

Incredible Lifetime Memories for Family with Young Children

We had Alessandra who was the BEST tour guide. She picked us up with a driver from our hotel, promptly at 9am. We have 4 children aged 8-13. She took us to the Pantheon, Colosseum with ground floor tour, and Vatican. We stopped at other important sites for pictures and brief explanations of their historical significance. She brought a book for our children in order to illustrate how different ruins looked before, compared to now. She not only taught my husband and I a ton of history we only knew bits and pieces of, she was incredibly engaging for our children and provided them with fun, interesting facts that deepened their understanding of what they were seeing. She walked us through the Vatican Museum and highlighted important artifacts while also taking the time to show us pictures of the Sistine Chapel, giving a brief history, and explaining secret information in Michael Angelo’s paintings that my children couldn’t wait to find while we were in there. She took us to an incredible restaurant where we had the best lunch we had while in Rome. The word “incredible” doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of how she made our whole trip to Rome. We could not have had the experience we did without her. Thank you Alessandra for a lifetime of memories we will never forget!!!

Our tour with Marco was money. Well spent! The best decision of our vacation!

Our trip was amazing due to our wonderful guide/driver, Marco! He was prompt and courteous, witty, and funny… With extensive knowledge of the city, including short cuts, and viewing spots, that only a local would know about! He shared stories from his childhood, growing up in Rome, took us to his friends, coffee shop for the best cappuccino we’ve ever had! We saw more sites in on 7 hour tour. Then we would have seen in a weeks tour on our own. I don’t want to give away all of his secrets, but trust me, you will have the time of your life and learn more about Rome from this local driver who will become your friend! Thank you Marco for making our trip to Italy unforgettable!

Private tour is where it’s at!

Exceeded all expectations. Everything was perfect from pickup to drop off and coordination beforehand. We were brought to the best gelato place in Rome, in the hills, and saw/experienced what skipping the line felt like for the Colosseum and the Pantheon. Our guide knew everything about Rome and the driver was always there to pick us up in busy areas, which made our day amazing! If you want to cover a lot of ground while being transported in a fantastic air conditioned van, along with a happy & knowledgeable guide, this is your company. Funny, my hairdresser recommended this service and she was spot on!! 10 stars. We did the 5 hour VIP tour; it was worth every penny.

Incredible tour with a wonderful tour guide!!

Alessandra was a fantastic tour guide. She made sure everything was clear and planned our day perfectly. She was incredibly nice and a joy to talk to. She knew the historical background answers for all of my questions and pointed out areas of importance that I never would have noticed. Another added bonus of having Alessandra as our tour guide that you don’t usually think about before it’s too late was that she knew where all of the “free” bathrooms were. This is very important when you’re in a city that requires a euro or more to use the restroom and you’re having an emergency. I felt safe throughout our tour and now have a wonderful friend. I’ll be booking her again next time I’m in Rome. I highly recommend her and her group, you won’t regret it. 10 stars all the way.

Fantastic! Amazing! Only way to see Rome

Although at first glance it may seem pricey, but this is the best money you will spend if you want to see Rome and only have one day (AND you're on one of the cruise ships). We were met on time right outside the ship and transported to Rome by Nicola who was so personable and full of information. Limo van was very, very clean and comfortable. We met our guide Laura in Rome and she then made sure we were able to see all the highlights and also gave us general tips should we every decide to return to the city. She had really great information and has a wonderful, upbeat personality. She was kind in answering our multitude questions and our wanting to stare in awe at everything, but still kept us on track. Nico and Laura were able to get us a wonderful, authentic Italian lunch in a small restaurant where they did an excellent job with dietary restriction. We ended up with almost more food than we could eat! Laura was also able to secure a blessing for us by a priest in the Vatican (I would not ever count on this again. It was a case of perfect timing and her recognizing the opportunity. I would have never even guessed it possible!) Nico did an excellent job of driving throughout the city and to return us to the cruise ship with plenty of time. We felt a little sad to leave them at the end of the day. Bottom line, make this one of your reservations! It will be better than anything you will get through the cruiseline and you will not regret it

Amazing Tour of Ancient Rome and the Vatican

My family travelled to Rome last week and we, thankfully, booked a private tour with Nicola and Nic. They picked us up at our hotel promptly at 8:30AM and we were off! Nic was our driver (and local food expert!) and Nicola was the expert on everything else. From the Colosseum, to the Roman Forum...the Pantheon, to the Vatican....Nicola's extensive knowledge covered it all. He has the ability to explain things in a manner that transports you back in time to imagine how things once looked centuries ago and the goings on of the time. He customized the tour to our preferences and even showed us some things we weren't expecting, like The Keyhole (which was a really cool experience!). We enjoyed Nic and Nicola so much that we also booked Nic to pick us up to take us to dinner that night and he also took us to the airport when we were leaving Rome. He was always very friendly, knowledgeable and prompt. Being able to jump in and out of the van while on the tour without worrying about parking, etc. was key. I cannot recommend this tour, especially Nicola, enough! Do not look any further! If you want to get a glimpse into Ancient Rome and learn all about the wonders of Michaelangelo's works at the Vatican, and so, so much more, book Nicola as your tour guide now! We'll definitely be booking him again when we return to Rome.
