The first tour i purchased through Viator, in English, was cancelled 1 week before I was to take it. The only other tour I could get was in Italian. I showed up for it but there was no tour. I called the tour operator who indicated that Viator had never communicated my reservation to them. It must have been true as Viator refunded me - otherwise I'd have given them no stars. This tour was a major reason for me visiting Rome. Once was bad. Two is unforgivable. Do your own research and go direct to operators.
We booked the visit to Domus Aurea. On the way to our guided tour we then got a message that we should come to the end of its park and receive our tickets there. This has worked so far. But , when we got the tickets, I saw that the tickets at the Domus itself cost only 26,00 € per person( *2= 52,00 €) and not how I paid 75,00 € ( *2 = 150,00 €) per capita. Almost 200% surcharge is clearly too much? Unfortunately, the great experience is very cloudy.
While the experince of visiting Domus Aurea was wonderful, the ticketing arrangements leave much to be desired? Whiywas there separate ticket collection / entry? We were give vague directions for ticket pickup which directected us to an unrelated tour operator, who only through their help were able they directed us to the pickup. The ticket issuing agent did not make themselves visible, instead choosing to sit hidden on a wall making herself as invisible as possible. Many people arrive late to the site becuase of the issue. Top marks for the actual tour and tour guide but minus oner star for the woeful ticketing!!
This was an amazingly informative & interesting tour. One of the most fascinating sites of Rome!!! I've been to Rome several times and didn't even know about this until my daughter suggested it. A definite MUST!
The Guide was poor. She rushed us through the tour, so we had no opportunity to really appreciate the art on the walls and ceilings. She would start to talk when most of the group was still catching up to her in the previous room. Her explanations were basic. She carried a plastic bottle of water that she continually squashed that made an unpleasant noise through the earplugs we wore. For the money we paid, and sharing with over 20 other people, it was not worth it. VERY disappointing.
The tour guide never showed up and apparently didn't call the tour company to tell them they would not make it. We waited for more than an hour for the young tour representative (who is not to be blamed, she was working hard!) to have to talk us into a non-guided 20 minutes rush-through of the Domus Aurea, thanks to the kindness of a national guide who was allowed to move us through the building, but now allowed to say anything. Multiple phone calls and texts and they want to refund only a small portion of the expense I paid for this tour. Don't bother with this company.
Well interpreted with movies and virtual goggles. A great new experience in Nero’s 150 room pleasure palace.
Incredible insight into the grandeur of ancient Rome. Loved the VR experience and our guide, Claudia, was brilliant.
An incredible experience to see something not many people get to see. I loved every minute of it! It is chilly underground, so make sure you bring a jacket!
Beautiful place and our guide, Claudia, was great!! The 3d experience in the end was also very good.
