More waiting time than anything else

Long wait until it started, then the red tour bus was stuck in traffic more than it was driving. The connections to the blue tour were missed, and in order not to wait another 1.25 hours at the unpleasant starting point, we booked the green route as well - on the small bus through the old town, the audio system failed - no explanations, and it required so much time again that the blue route could only be taken with over an hour of waiting time. Conclusion: no wonder many tourists now take the tuk-tuks - because the bus is also expensive and you wait more than you drive.

Very big disappointment!

Absolute disappointment! We had to wait forever for the buses and had no time at all to get off anywhere because the buses run so irregularly. We were fed completely false information. For the high price, the service is an insult. Hardly anything was explained on the bus – you didn't know where you were, nor at which stop you should get off. A city tour makes no sense this way. Not recommended. A complete rip-off.

Not recommended, really lousy bus tour.

Total rip-off. The organizer didn't tell the truth during the sale, hardly any info on the bus. Getting off is almost impossible, unless you want to wait 1.5 hours for the next bus to come. We just sat on the bus in Lisbon and waited. We have done several hop-on hop-off tours, but this was by far the worst.

Stay away.

Absolutely not recommended. It takes forever for the bus to leave. Punctuality does not exist. Then you have to go to the "center," from where the other lines run, where you have to wait again until something happens. There is hardly any information about the guide. Traffic in Lisbon doesn't make the whole thing any easier. Once you get off, it takes another 1.5 hours for the next bus to come. Absolute rip-off.

Don't waste your time with City Sightseeing Lisbon - Terrible schedules

We tried purchasing tickets at the red line #4 stop on Friday, July 10th and were told it was not possible there or online with City Sightseeing Lisbon due to "system" issues. We found something better to do that day and I booked tickest for Saturday, July 11th with Tripadvisor. While waiting for the bus on Saturday, the young lady could not understand what happened on Friday and said there is no problem with their system and we should have been allowed to purchase the ticket at the bus stop. We took the red line on Saturday to the #1 point to transfer to the blue line, only to find out on a Saturday that the next blue bus would not leave for another hour and a half. We didn't want to waste that much time on our last day in Lisbon, so took an Uber to the area around the Aquarium sector. After our visit to that area, we waited at the designated spot for the bus for over an hour and one never came (several competitor company's busses came and went, however). Again, to not waste time waiting on this company, we took an Uber to where we wanted to go. Summary: We've taken many, many tours with City Sightseeing around the world and this one is by far the worst run we've ever seen. I would not recommend using them at all.

Not the best experience

We probably didn't utilize the service to its full potential, but considering that this is a global company offering this experience across numerous cities and countries worldwide I would expect that a website or app that directs you to the nearest stop and gives you wait times for the next bus should have been available. When we attempted to download a copy of the route map the image was blurry and you could not make out any of the street names. We then obtained a hard copy of the map, and again not all the street names were able to be read making it challenging to find the first location. Also not all the headphone jacks were working. Due to this poor start to the experience we only went to Belem then back to the city.

Operator response

Hi, Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback about your experience with City Sightseeing Lisbon. We're sorry to learn that your Hop-On Hop-Off bus tour did not get off to the smooth start you were expecting. We understand how frustrating it must have been to have difficulty reading the route map and locating the first stop. We also regret that some of the headphone jacks were not working, which impacted your enjoyment of the audio commentary. We truly appreciate your comments regarding the availability of clearer navigation tools and real-time bus information. Feedback like yours is invaluable, as it helps us identify opportunities to improve both our digital resources and the overall sightseeing experience for future visitors. We sincerely apologize that these issues limited your visit to Belém and prevented you from making the most of your ticket. Thank you for bringing these matters to our attention, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to City Sightseeing Lisbon for a much more enjoyable experience in the future.

Worst hop on hop off bus we have ever experienced

Terrible experience, buses dirty, drivers unfriendly, bus stops difficult to navigate, we were told waiting times would be every 30 minutes.....buses just didn't turn up at specified locations. Absolute waste of money and time!

Terrible

Buses in Lisbon without air conditioning during a heatwave, where the thermometer reads 47 degrees. Dirty and smelling of urine. I have ridden in different cities in Spain, and this has never happened to me before.

Don’t bother!

We’ve used these City Sightseeing Red buses in various countries and cities we’ve visited over the years and always found them useful and informative but this one was terrible. The audio guide was next to useless. Largely playing music most of the route. On the odd occasion it actually had some narrative guide information to share it was usually well out of sync/time with where we were and was talking about something we’d passed 5 mins earlier. What a waste of money!
