Caravaggio, masterpieces and secrets in the churches of Rome

Description
Stroll around Rome’s historical center and discover the tumultuous life and amazing masterpieces of Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, the greatest and most famous painter of the Baroque art in Italy! His beautiful and fascinating paintings are mostly known for the incredible naturalism and for the dramatic use of lighting: thanks to bright shafts of light, noble and violent figures capture attention emerging from shadows. You’ll have the incredible chance to see this “tenebrism” from close in his great canvases, from the intriguing cycle on the theme of Saint Matthew the Evangelist to the raw violence of the Crucifixion of Saint Peter. And Caravaggio’s life was as dramatic as his paintings: his irritable and violent character led him to get involved in street-brawls and caused him trouble with the law, culminating in a death sentence for murder. Our knowledgeable guide will lead you through the alleys that were the scene of fights and brawls to the beautiful churches were Caravaggio’s breathtaking masterpieces continue to fascinate visitors after more than four centuries.

Serena’s knowledge and expertise were exceptional. We are art history lovers, but even those without prior interest would develop a genuine appreciation under her guidance. Although we were already familiar with Caravaggio, she brought to light so many additional details about his life and works. The tour was excellently organized with clear communication and an easy meet-up location. Our guide was simple to locate, and the pacing was well balanced, allowing sufficient time to absorb the information and sites without feeling rushed. We recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes, as the tour involves walking, and coming prepared to learn. Overall, this was a great way to spend an afternoon. We highly recommend this experience to anyone interested in art and history. Thank you, Serena, for an outstanding tour.
Excellent tour with a very knowledgeable guide. We saw several paintings across three different churches. The appreciation for Caravaggios work and life made the tour really interesting. I’d recommend the tour for art novices to experts.
Having a private tour in the churches where these extraordinary works of art are displayed was a special experience. Too many large and small group tours try to cover too much ground and are impersonal. This was just right for us.
Serena was an excellent tour guide. She is very knowledgeable about the works and life of Caravaggio. She pointed out important aspects of his paintings and shared fascinating stories of his life. To view these masterpieces with her made the experience so much more memorable. Walking through the city with her narrative brought an invaluable aspect that should not be missed. I was thrilled that I took the tour with her and was grateful for the opportunity.
Got to see the most important works of Caravaggio in three beautiful churches. The guide was good and gave the back story about the life of Caravaggio......
This tour was a highlight during our recent three week trip to Italy. Our guide was knowledgeable and passionate about Caravaggio's story and his painting. We felt immersed in his world and learned so much about the transition that Caravaggio ushered in with his painting style and his gritty spirituality. I would heartily recommend this experience and our guide
