Visit the charming Pena Palace, a UNESCO Site and the greatest exponent of Portuguese Romanticism. The oldest building at the local, of which there is a memory, was a little 15th century chapel, called the Chapel of Our Lady of Pena. The chapel became a Convent during the 16th century and in 1838 the King of Portugal bought it and started the construction of the Royal Family summer residence. The Pena Palace is a stunning example of Romanticism, blending neo-Gothic, neo-Manueline, neo-Islamic, and neo-Renaissance styles. It was constructed on the site of a former monastery and is perched atop a hill, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
Queluz Palace, often referred to as the "Portuguese Versailles," is an exquisite example of 18th-century Rococo architecture. Initially built as a summer retreat for Dom Pedro of Braganza, the palace later became a favorite residence of the Portuguese royal family. The palace gardens feature meticulously maintained parterres, fountains, statues, and the impressive Neptune's Fountain. The interior boasts opulent rooms such as the Throne Room, the Music Room, and the Tile Room, each adorned with intricate details and lavish furnishings. Perfect for admirers of Rococo elegance and landscaped gardens, offering a glimpse into the luxurious lifestyle of 18th-century Portuguese royalty. This tour will last 90 minutes. Sintra National Palace is one of the oldest in Europe. Mentioned in 11th century documents and property of the Portuguese Crown since 1147, Sintra National Palace is, in itself, a journey in Portuguese History. One of Portugal's best-preserved medieval royal residences, continuously inhabited by the Portuguese monarchy from the early 15th century until the late 19th century. The palace showcases a blend of Gothic, Manueline, Moorish, and Mudéjar styles, representing various periods of Portuguese history. The palace is famous for its two large conical chimneys, a distinctive feature of Sintra's skyline. Inside, you'll find beautifully decorated rooms such as the Swan Room, the Magpie Room, and the Arab Room, each rich in historical significance and artistic detail. Ideal for those who appreciate medieval history and royal heritage, with beautifully preserved interiors. This tour will last 90 minutes. Please note you can only choose one attraction to visit
Quinta da Regaleira is a masterpiece of Gothic, Renaissance, and Manueline architecture, infused with mystical and esoteric symbolism. Built for a wealthy Portuguese businessman with a fascination for alchemy, Masonry, and the Knights Templar. One of the most famous features is the Initiation Well, a spiral staircase leading down into the earth, symbolizing a journey into the depths of the human soul. The palace is surrounded by lush gardens filled with hidden grottoes, secret tunnels, and symbolic sculptures, creating a magical atmosphere. Best for those intrigued by mystical symbolism and enchanting gardens, providing a journey into a world of mystery and esotericism. This tour will last 90 minutes. Please note you can only choose one attraction to visit.

Daniel is an excellent tour guide. He is full of knowledge and interesting historical stories. He was very clear about our plan and our day went so smoothly. He took us to a lovely lunch on the coastline and it was beautiful. We were traveling with our 2 boys, ages 10 and 12, and they were engaged the whole time. Grateful for Daniel for helping to make our travels to Portugal an even more enjoyable experience!

I booked the private full day tour for 4 of us through Essencia da Latitude on Trip advisor. We were met promptly at our hotel by Daniel in a large, comfortable air conditioned van. From there we went to Quelez Palace. We arrived there right when they opened, which gave the palace and gardens to ourselves. (I would recommend an hour and a half to two hours to tour the palace and gardens.) Daniel advised us to buy our tickets for Pena Palace and Moor's castle while at Quelez Palace, which saved us time and money. Moors' castle is beautiful and worth the hike, incredible views and photo ops. From there we went to Pena Palace, which was very crowded. Daniel was able to drop us off at the entrance gates and from there we walked up to the palace. I would allow an hour to an hour and a half, depending on crowds. I personally liked Quelez palace more than Pena palace and wish I spent more time there. (I think Pena Palace is over rated) After a walk around Sintra with Daniel and a light lunch and delicious pastries, we headed to Cascais with stops along the way to see the beautiful coastline. Daniel gave excellent recommendations and is very knowledgeable. Definitely would recommend Essencia da Latitude and the private full day tour, and Do ask for Daniel.

Daniel was our guide for the entire day. He was accommodating to our schedule from start to finish. We thoroughly enjoyed our day touring. The Queluz Palace was beautiful and the group favorite. The Pena Palace was just ok - I would probably have skipped for another. Need to spend more time in Cascais on my next trip.
