Zapopan Tour from Guadalajara: Basilica of Our Lady and Huichol Art Museum
Description
The venerated image of the Virgin of Zapopan has a very special sanctuary. The Shrine itself is an architectural jewel; the perfect venue to commemorate the well known “La Generalisima”. We will also visit the Huichol Art Museum, a living culture of the region that especially uses beads and yarn in the elaboration of its colorful handicrafts.

After hotel pickup, your tour starts with the 25-minute drive to Zapopan, about 7 miles (11 km) northwest of central Guadalajara. On the drive, your guide will tell about the two attractions you’ll visit — the Basilica of Our Lady of Zapopan (Basílica de Nuestra Señora de Zapopan) and the Huichol Art Museum (Museo de Arte Huichol Wixárica), which is adjacent to the basilica.
Then head next door to the Huichol Art Museum to check out its collection of colorful clothing, figurines and other artwork from the indigenous Huichol people.

Our guide, Carlos, provided such an interesting commentary in excellent English, as we drove through neighbourhoods of Zapopan, including upscale shopping malls and tour through the Huichol Art Museum. We couldn’t go inside the Basilica as a couple was renewing their wedding vows. Carlos’s wide familiarity with Guadalajara and Zapopan was a bonus.
