Great historian. Lots of photos to help Visualize. Held the attention of entire family, different ages.
Max was in communication with my wife, on 5/16/25, the day we were scheduled for a private guide of The Coliseum. We were told in an email from the company that for $350 euros, we would be picked up at our hotel at 4pm and then dropped off at our hotel at the conclusion of our private tour. Unbeknownst to us, the terms of service were changed in the confirmation that was attached to a follow up email. The confirmation stated we were to make our own way to the Coliseum and meet the guide there at 4pm. By the time we realized the terms had been changed...but we were still charged the same price for less service...it was 4:15pm. We arrived at the meeting point by taxi at 4:45pm. After a lackluster attempt by the guide to gain us entrance at that time we were turned away by Coliseum staff. My wife Angela attempted to explain the situation to Max and his response was to make her feel stupid and to offer a 50 euro discount which we never received. I later asked Max to refund 175 euros... 1/2 of what we paid. He never responded to my message. We had other tour groups to choose from but we selected this one because my son Nicholas and his bride Colleen used this company 6 years ago and said how impressed they were by being picked up and dropped off along with the tour that Max gave. I don't know what happened between then and now, but it seems to me his business practices are suspect. By writing this review, I am letting other people know they should not use Max Pirin's company for a tour in Rome.
Dear Mr & Mrs Crippen, We are extremely disappointed to read your negative review and would like to address some important points. This review you wrote is completely wrong and has no right to be. We're all sure it will help many discerning travelers continue to choose my agency, as your son Nicholas and his wife Colleen did, when they recommended my agency to you. First of all, they did a full day of Rome, not just the Walking tour of the Colosseum with no pick up and no drop off otherwise the price would have been higher. Only the rome full days includes the mercedes or sedan with private driver. The very serious thing is that you say you asked us for information. This is false. You booked a Colosseum tour directly from our website, requesting the 4:00 PM time slot. We never said the tour included hotel pickup. The website clearly shows that the service starts at the Arch of Constantine. It has been written on all the Viator and Tripadvisor websites as well, and on our website for 26 years, that all walking tours start from the meeting point that were decided 26 years ago. Not from the hotels. When someone book a service, receives a confirmation via email in less than 24/48 hours with a PDF attachment with the ALL service details as it is on our websites, which states that the meeting point is near the Colosseum at the Arch of Constantine, along with all the inclusions and exclusions. If you didn't read the email and the details in the PDF it's certainly not our fault. We also advised you the day before to meet the guide Maria Teresa near the Arch of Constantine at 4:00 PM via WhatsApp the evening before, but we haven't received a response from you.That afternoon, my guide was waiting for you at the designated meeting point, and you called the office at 4:00 PM when the tickets said you must have entered the colosseum. You realized you hadn't read the PDF confirmation, making a serious number of mistakes. You could have visited the Roman Forum and the colosseum from outside, but you didn't want to do it because you were late to enter the Colosseum. We remind everyone that tickets have a specific entry time. Most likely, you didn't want to take the tour at all and made up a story to get a refund. Our guide had this impression. Strangely enough, on the same day, we had 12 private tours of the Colosseum and Roman Forum, and no one complained. Everyone met the guide as the PDF confirmation said, near the Arch of Constantine on time as it has been in the last 26 years on our websites. Everyone read their emails. Everyone except you and in 2025 is not acceptable. The bad and suspicious people is you. You need to be careful when booking and carefully review the tour details. We have the email communications and messages you sent and in all our answers we never never saud that pick up was at 4:00 pm at the hotel because you asked for a 4:00 pm tour of the colosseum. From the booking Confirmation and from the website: "Our official Tour Guide will meet you near the Arch of Constantine at 3:50 PM Your Tour guide Maria Teresa will have a signboard with your last name printed on it" All walking tours don't include pickup. Even the claim that we've changed the website is absurd and untrue. The site's content has been the same for 26 years. In this digital world where everyone writes what's BETTER for them, we find it all very absurd. Fortunately, this is the first time this has happened to us just to try to get a refund. Fortunately, people are smart and will continue to choose our private tours. Your SON did a full day rome tour and not half day walking tour with meeting point near the arch of constantine. That's why they had a car for the all day. They paid more than you. You've made a mistake. So sorry. Read the emails and pdf next time. You've probably learned the lessons now. What we do not regret is the moment we said good bye via whatsApp because we never met you and our hope not to have to provide services to customers like you. Thank God it happens only once in over 2 decades to have clients like you. Last, we sent you 50 euros refund. Unfortunately We cannot upload all the messages you sent via whatsapp. Have a Happy Life if you can. It is our hope that other guests reading this review appreciate that this complaint is not at all an accurate portrayal of our company.
Cristina was our guide and is truly amazing!!! She was very knowledgeable and passionate about Rome! Her experience was evident as she knew the best ways to navigate the crowds and see all the sights from the most advantageous locations. We were traveling with adults and a child and she engaged all of us throughout our tour. She thought of everything from helping us visualize how the structures would have looked so many years ago finding a current visual focal point and building from that, where to get the best pictures, and to where the clean bathrooms were, where we should connect with our uber driver to take us to our next tour and managing the heat!!! She was an absolute pleasure and I truly feel like we learned about the sights more than just saw them! After her tour all others paled in comparison!!! Cristina if you get a chance to see this review I truly want to express my thanks for the fantastic memories you helped us create! You are wonderful and we are grateful to have met you! We hope our paths cross again!
Dennis was a fantastic guide!! He was very knowledgeable about the history and the area. Soft spoken and took time to explain everything. Truly enjoyed our time with him.
Marco picked us up from the hotel at 8:30 am and set us up for a great Sunday Tour that included the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Palatine Hill, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and more!!! Our first stop was the Colosseum where we had a tour with an excellent guide that took us inside of the Colosseum, through the Royal Forum and Palatine Hill and gave us a great lesson on the history of this entire area. We met Marco back at the van at noon where he had arranged to take us to a nice restaurant for lunch (at our own cost). He took us to the Trevi and Spanish Steps. He was flexible on our Sunday schedule however, we did not go to the catacombs because the lines would have been too long and it would have taken time away from other things. Overall, we enjoyed the tour and having the van made it so nice not having to walk to all the different locations on our last day in Italy! (Although be prepared to walk the morning tour)

The best part of our trip was the tour guide! Valentina was spectacular. Very knowledgeable and fun! We had a great time, and she did a wonderful job keeping things interesting for both my wife and me and also our children.
