We had a wonderful day on our tour. Our fabulous guide, Alois, was so informative, had excellent thorough knowledge of French history and made sure all guests were comfortable and enjoyed the day. I recommend taking up the golf cart and bike option as the grounds are so extensive it would be impossible to tackle on foot. Even with this option there is a fair amount of walking, so be prepared - I completed about 25,000 steps - taking into account walking to and from the train station - which is a good 25 minute walk from the palace. Alois took us to two lovely cafes for breaks - these are not cheap but have a nice choice of fresh salads, quiche, baguettes and patisserie. The option to tour the grounds in the morning then go into the palace in the afternoon without the guide worked well as the heat in the afternoon was unbearable. Be prepared as inside the palace it can get extremely busy and crowded - as to be expected in a major tourist attraction.
We normally don't pay for guided tours and this was well worth the money we invested. The Versailles gardens are enormous and we learned so much and saw so many things we wouldn't ever have gotten to on our own- or heard the backstory on. I highly recommend this tour. There's plenty of time to see the palace afterwards. Alois was a great tour guide who kept us on track so we could see as much as possible while learning a lot along the way about French history. I had heard the gardens were large... They were enormous. We have two teenagers who really enjoyed the entire day as well.
We went on a rainy day and it was also windy. Using the golf carts to get around is the way to go whether the weather is good or perfect or bad. The roads can be uneven so traveling in a cart is much easier on the body.
The tour itself was enjoyable, and our guide was both knowledgeable and accommodating. However, I had expected a more leisurely experience, thinking it would be easier on my husband due to the minimal walking required. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case, and we ended up walking over 10,000 steps, which was quite challenging for someone with certain health conditions.
Thank you very much for your feedback. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the tour and appreciated your guide’s knowledge and flexibility. We would like to clarify that certain areas of the 2000 acres Royal Domain, such as the Bosquets and Marie Antoinette’s Hamlet, are only accessible on foot, as golf carts are not permitted in these protected areas. However, these walking portions are absolutely not mandatory. Guests with mobility concerns are always welcome to remain in the golf cart or relax at the terrace of a nearby café while the rest of the group visits these areas. Our guides are always happy to adapt the experience whenever possible to ensure everyone enjoys their time at Versailles comfortably. Thank you again for visiting Versailles with us, and we truly appreciate your comments.
We had guide Elouise he s amazing eith different groups snd she's Remarkable guide Enjoy as it all comes alive
Amazing - prefect way to see the most at palace of Versailles. Go on the weekend when the fountains are in full glory !
Paola (Chilean tour guide) was the best! She made sure to cover all details and was patient with our group. Thank you, Paola for sharing your knowledge about Versailles!
Paula was a wonderful guide, she was informative, friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and we had an amazing time together.
Versaills was amazing. The guided tour with bike and golf cart was more to be desired. We had to walk too much even though we booked aids. The coffee stop took place in an ice cold café and we were sitting there for a very long time. The information from the guide bore a bit of tall tales that sometimes felt made up stories.
Dear Per Petré, thank you for taking the time to leave a review. The grounds of Versailles are 2000 acres, and in some areas ( the Bosquets, the village of Marie Antoinette) neither Golfcarts nor bikes are not allowed to circulate. If you want to visit those places, there is no other choice than walking unfortunately. But it totally worth it as those areas are absolute highlights of the Royal Domain of Versailles. The café place where we take a break around 11:30 has some seats inside, which can be used by our guests. All the anecdotes you received during your tour, even if they might seem surprising from our 21st century angle, are all based on historical facts! We are sorry if our tour did not gave you total satisfaction and feel free to reach out to us to discuss that more in detail. Merci,
Very well organized and low impact/stress tour. I am slightly disabled (walk with a cain). There were several opportunities where I could sit and rest.
