Flavia was an awesome tour guide. Possibly the best museum tour guide I've ever had. My husband and son generally don't like tours and they both loved Flavia and found the tour really interesting.
Guide was very good. Extremely knowledgeable about everything in the Vatican and Sistine Chapel. Seems like the whole area is overbooked. At one time counted 10 different guides ahead of us.
Good information tour and an enthusiastic guide. Passionate and easy to understand.
Too much to see. Too many people. Had to meet at a remote spot which was far from hotel. Didn’t know if we were at correct location. Would not recommend Viator for any trips to Rome and probably any international. Tour guide walked too fast and we got lost 1/2 way through tour
Great tour guide called Erik and was super insightful. Also really recommend as was able to skip the queues and go straight in. We did the 7:30am tour and I recommend booking a early tour before the crowds get too busy.
Flavia was an outstanding guide. Her use of extra resources made every exhibit more meaningful, and her energy kept us engaged even in the heat. She turned what could have been a tough, hot tour into a great experience. Note: our tour did not include the Basilica segment, but we opted for a skip the line self guided tour that allowed us to see it at our own pace.
Messy morning start time at the office as no one was there and we’d been told to arrive earlier than advertised etc but once we got our guide, Blanche, it was a great tour navigating an overwhelming collection of art and history.
Because we were really late booking this tour we ended up paying TEN times the normal amount! Trip advisor makes block bookings early & then resells them at a HUGE profit!! Waiting for the tour guide on the side of the road on a HOT day(peaked at 36C) with no shade or place to sit down was not nice. However the guide knew her stuff & did everything possible to make our tour comfortable/enjoyable. Unfortunately for me I only understood a fraction of what she said. Although we were issued with an earpiece & radio receiver, I have a significant hearing loss & to get sufficient volume out of my ear piece was impossible without distortion. In the end I put my hearing aids back in & tried to stay really close. Even though it's not the largest art collection in the world the 20,000 pieces of art on display was enough to overwhelm our senses & energy. Although the guide doesn't give you nearly enough time to absorb it all & only just enough to take photos/videos. You are allowed to back track after the tour finished. We didn't as we were way overdue our lunch & needed a break. In addition we didn't get the complete tour as there was some option you had to click on in the booking site which was not at all obvious!! But we did get to go through the Sistene chapel fairly quickly(the guards were hurrying us through)
Amazing tour, very informative!
We had a hard time understanding our tour guide for a couple of reasons, the first being that the static in our ear pieces was so bad that it made it practically impossible to hear the guide for sections of the tour, when we could hear her, her English was pretty limited and this made it hard for her to properly explain things. For instance while walking by a vase once she said something like “and this one has two men fighting.” I use that example to illustrate that a lot of what she told us that we could actually understand were things that were clear to us already because we could see it. It all felt very disorganized. For instance the tickets the 4 of us were given were in other people’s names and some of them said passage 1 while others said passage 3, we just stayed together and thankfully didn’t get stopped by anyone. My husband and I are both language teachers so we are sympathetic listeners and didn’t expect perfect English but for the prices we paid, someone knowledgeable and understandable with functioning equipment would have been nice. We finally just out our head pieces and followed along. If you go in summer, make sure you pack water and a paper fan because you will need it.
