Construction of the present basilica began on 18 April 1506 and was completed on 18 November 1626. Designed principally by Donato Bramante, Michelangelo, and Carlo Maderno, with piazza and fittings by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, St. Peter's is one of the most renowned works of Italian Renaissance architecture and is the largest church in the world by interior measure. This tour was excellent! Roberta knew a lot about the artifacts in the museums, and all of the history in the Vatican City. She catered the experience to our family, which was also nice. We also had an early tour, so it wasn't super crowded, despite being a Friday in June. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to really see the Vatican.
Bernadetta was very kind and helpful in answering all my questions, an experience that I highly recommend to everyone, to be repeated.
Great experience, very knowledgeable & friendly tour quide. With private skip the line tour it was a very pleasurable experience
Very good service, guide was fantastic and we really skipped the line to enter before everyone. Can’t imagine how and what would have seen without a guide.
A great way to see the Sistine Chapel, Vatican Museums and St Peter’s Basilica without the need to wait in long lines. We were fortunate enough to be the only people on the tour and had our guide (Silvio) lead us through the exhibitions pointing out the key pieces and works while steering us away from copies and minor works to focus on the highlights of the collection. His commentary was informative and easy to understand and he answered our questions effortlessly.
Tatiana did a great job! Great tour. Highly recommend this private tour. We were able to get in quickly and skip ahead.
Our guide Davide was very knowledgeable and kind. He knew a lot of history not just dates but the political and religious impacts that influenced the art and artist’s work.
Our guide was excellent. I can’t imagine having tried to navigate the museums without this tour. Well worth any amount.
We had a pretty good experience at the Vatican both thanks to the guide and the fact that Vatican museum was completely empty and it was like we almost had the museum to ourselves. Great experience!
