Truly magical evening at the Vatican Museum

This was a once in a lifetime tour. I can’t even begin to describe how special it was being the only people in the entire museum. It was literally only our one small group of maybe 10 people plus our guide and one security guard to escort us through the museum and the Sistine Chapel. Our guide was very knowledgeable, friendly, and engaging. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone seeking a more peaceful experience.

Great Evening Tour of the Vatican Museums

Maria was an excellent guide. She was very knowledgeable and easy to understand. There is so much to see in a very short period of time and having a guide like Maria gives you the opportunity to see and understand the highlights. Going in the late afternoon also means it’s a bit cooler and slightly less crowded. It was a very worthwhile experience and one of the highlights from our time in Rome.

Without people.

Excellent view, highly recommended; due to the access time, there are hardly any people, which is an advantage because you can spend much more time in the Sistine Chapel.

The Vatican Without the Crowds

Absolutely unforgettable experience. Seeing the Sistine Chapel almost empty was surreal, peaceful, emotional and so much more special than a regular visit. The guide was knowledgeable, organized and made the whole tour feel very exclusive. Worth every euro for the atmosphere alone. If you’re in Rome and want to experience the Vatican without the huge crowds, this is the tour to book. Best for people who want to avoid crowds and experience the Vatican in a more peaceful, exclusive atmosphere. Perfect length , around 2 hours felt just right. Enough time to enjoy everything without feeling rushed or exhausted.

Hi Oksanay, Thank you so much for this beautiful review. Reading your description of the Sistine Chapel as surreal, peaceful, and emotional truly brings a smile to our faces. We designed our evening tour specifically to offer that exclusive, unhurried atmosphere, so it is wonderful to hear that the two hour timing felt just right for you and that the experience was worth every euro. I will be sure to pass along your compliments to your guide, who will be thrilled to know they made the evening feel so special and organized. Thank you for highly recommending this experience to fellow travelers looking to escape the daytime crowds, and we hope to welcome you on another memorable tour the next time you visit Rome.

Not as advertised

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and the rooms we saw in the museum were awe inspiring. However, we were surprised when the tour guide said goodbye to the group right before we entered the Sistine Chapel at 7:30 pm, after 2 hours although it was advertised as a 3 hour tour. We were then incredibly shocked and disappointed when we were immediately ushered out of the Sistine Chapel by guards who said it was closing time. So, we only got to see the Chapel for 60 seconds while being herded out. The guide did not warn us this would happen, but the guards told us they close at that time every night and our guide knew that. Earlier in the tour, our guide spent 15 minutes describing what we would see in the Chapel. I would have much rather had those 15 minutes to actually spend in the Chapel. We paid for what was advertised as a 3 hour tour featuring uncrowded time in the Chapel and instead got a 2 hour tour that only included the briefest glance in the Chapel. Very disappointing.

Operator response

Hi Jennifer, Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you found the museums awe-inspiring and our guide knowledgeable, but we are truly sorry that your time in the Sistine Chapel was cut so short. To provide some context, the Sistine Chapel is an active place of worship and quite small relative to the rest of the Vatican Museums. Because of its size and sacred nature, there are strict limits on how long any group can remain inside to prevent overcrowding. Our guides usually spend time beforehand explaining the artwork because silence is mandatory inside, and we want to ensure you know exactly what to look for. However, it sounds like the timing was off for your specific visit, and we apologize that you felt rushed by the staff. We will certainly look into our evening scheduling to ensure that the transition between the galleries and the Chapel allows for a more relaxed experience before closing. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.
