I was lucky enough to be the only person there, so I had a private lesson. It was very peaceful, creative and informative and I felt I got a really good understanding of the basic principles. It has rekindled my interest in ikebana, and I hope to keep it up.
Thank you very much for your thoughtful review, and please excuse my delayed reply. I’m truly happy to hear that the class felt peaceful, creative, and informative for you. It was a pleasure to share the basic principles of ikebana together in such a calm setting. I’m especially glad to know that the experience rekindled your interest in ikebana. Thank you again for joining the class.
This workshop was a major highlight of my Japan trip! It was a wonderful experience—educational, inspiring, and genuinely fun. Fooraku’s enthusiasm for the art form is contagious, and it was clear that he truly wanted us to learn and feel inspired. He taught from first principles, which made the practice feel accessible and gave me the confidence to continue studying on my own. I’m excited to go home and keep practicing ikebana. I even picked up a great book there to support my learning. Highly recommended!
Thank you so much for your wonderful review and for sharing such kind words. It truly means a great deal to me. I’m very happy to hear that the workshop became one of the highlights of your trip to Japan. Your curiosity, openness, and thoughtful way of engaging with ikebana made the session special for me as well. I’m delighted that learning from first principles gave you confidence to continue practicing on your own, and that you found a book to support your journey. Ikebana grows richer the more you explore it, and I hope your arrangements at home bring you both creativity and calm. Thank you once again for your warm recommendation and for choosing to spend part of your trip with me.
A great workshop, initial ideas started with a very good introduction and creative work. Highly recommended. Fooruka is relaxed as a beginner constructively shows me the Ikebana art/philosophy, a very good teacher.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m very happy to hear that you enjoyed the introduction to Ikebana and could start exploring your own creative ideas. I’m glad you felt relaxed and inspired during the workshop. I hope Ikebana will continue to bring you joy and creativity, and I would be delighted to welcome you again anytime!
So grateful to Master Fooraku for such an insightful and moving Ikebana class. It was so much more than just flower arranging — every placement, every stem held meaning. His calm presence and deep philosophy behind the art made the experience truly special. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us.
Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful words. I’m truly honored that you found meaning and inspiration in the Ikebana experience. Each stem does indeed carry its own story, and I’m grateful we could explore that together. Wishing you continued joy and creativity on your own Ikebana journey!
The Ikebana course was a great experience! Although I did it alone, I had great conversations. Both with Fooraku and with the participants. Fooraku was warm, interested and took a lot of time for each individual participant. You can tell he does this work with passion. With the prepared presentation at the beginning, the creation with the plants was easy afterwards. I would visit this course again at any time. He inspired me and let me dive deep into the arts of Japan. Thank you, Fooraku!
Beautiful class and Fooraku was a great instructor with a big heart. He shared how ikebana fit into the broader japanese culture
Very interesting and fun to do. The super experienced teacher helped in a relaxed way. In the meanwhile you learn some extra things about Japanese culture.
Master Fooraku is an expert ikebana teacher who has been studying the art for over 30 years. He is very knowledgeable and his English was good. It was a fun learning experience that I would certainly recommend to anyone interested in floral arts.
Amazing first introduction to Ikebana by Master Fooraku! Thoroughly enjoyed the experience, it's a very unique and memorable way to spend time experiencing Japanese culture in Kyoto. Master Fooraku is a great teacher and the experience is pitched at just the perfect level.
I took Fooraku's ikebana class with my friends. I have joined Western flower arrangement classes before, but this was my first ikebana class. I was impressed by the technique of expressing beauty with a few flowers as opposed to flower arrangements that use many flowers. Fooraku explained us about the tools and how to cut and put the flowers in a vase. He used seasonal flowers, so I tought I can enjoy ikebana whole year! His instructions was very eazy to understand and follow, so I was so satisfied with my work!! He even gave us the certification at the end of the class and made me happy! If you have chance to go to Kyoto, don't miss it!! highly recommend!
