Description

With a mix of cultural influences on the nation's cuisine, it's no wonder that Malaysian food is a lip-smackingly complex beast. We'll meet in the old district of Chow Kit and Kampung Baru, one of the last remaining districts that is yet to be developed into glassy high rises. Don't expect other foreigners. Stroll in this local neighbourhood of nightly street eats, sampling a variety of 15+ tastings, carefully curated for their culinary history. The flavours change across the year, but highlights include the fragrant bowls of laksa, hand stretched rotis, nasi lemak with piquant sambal and herbal chicken rendang, charcoal-grilled mackerel, and soothing iced cendol with custard-like durian. We'll end with a fine view of the mighty Petronas Twin Towers. I'm sure you have a lot of your plate, but here's some food for thought. While it's possible to attempt such a culinary marathon yourself, you'd be one sandwich short of a Malaysian picnic not to join me on our moveable food feast.

Must in Kuala Lumpur

We had an amazing food tour in Kuala Lumpur and would highly recommend it! Our guide, Sean, was fantastic. He was incredibly knowledgeable and shared so much interesting information about the city’s history, culture, and traditions throughout the tour. It was not only informative but also very entertaining. The food was delicious from start to finish, and we loved having the opportunity to try a variety of local dishes. Walking through the city allowed us to experience Kuala Lumpur from a different perspective and discover places we would never have found on our own. One of the highlights was meeting people from different countries and sharing the experience together while learning more about Malaysian culture. It was a wonderful mix of great food, history, culture, and social connection. Thank you, John, for making this such a memorable experience!

You won't leave hungry!

Absolutely fantastic tour, I can't recommend it highly enough. Nardia was an exceptional guide, bringing incredible enthusiasm and passion to sharing Malaysia's history, culture, and food. You certainly won't leave hungry, with a wide variety of delicious dishes to sample throughout the tour (although the durian may not be for everyone!). The food was outstanding, the experience was engaging and informative, and Nardia made the day truly memorable. An excellent tour made even better by an amazing guide. Highly recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Great experience - show up hungry

This tour was really fun and informative of some history of Malaysia. Lots of different foods, information about the origin of the dish and the name as well. You will not leave hungry... Wear sturdy shoes and bring a poncho or umbrella as the weather can turn quite quickly, which it did for us, but it was still enjoyable. I guess it added to the authentic atmosphere. Highly recommended and well worth the money. Its a good reminder wherever you go, to get away from the main roads and explore.

Fun & enlightening.

Well worth it. Our guide, Sam, was funny and a mine of historical, local & general knowledge. Within the first 20 minutes I'd learnt several things I didn't know when I woke up that morning, like how to peel a rambutan fruit and how tasty they are. After the tour there are a dozen things to eat I was walking past before with no idea what the deal was, that now I can confidently order & enjoy. It's a social evening too, got talking to the other guests and all got on really well. Plenty of food is provided, you certainly won't leave hungry. There's a reasonable amount of walking, nothing strenuous, just 5 minutes tops between the furthest stops, often much less. Bringing an umbrella is a wise precaution though the guide has plastic ponchos if needed, drinking water food & a smoothie to finish are all provided so you don't need to bring anything else. The tour ends a short (5 min) walk from the Petronas towers which is a lovely sight after dark & something to take in while you digest.

Amazing Food Tour and Outstanding Guide!

We had an absolutely fantastic evening exploring Kuala Lumpur's incredible street food scene. This tour was one of the highlights of our trip and gave us the chance to experience parts of KL we never would have found on our own. Our guide, Ian, was exceptional; he was friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about Malaysian culture and food. He made everyone feel welcome and took the time to explain the history and significance of each dish we tried. Ian's enthusiasm was contagious and made the entire experience fun and informative. The food was outstanding, from the delicious satay and freshly (self!) made roti to the bustling atmosphere of Chow Kit Market. Ian encouraged us to try new things, including durian, which was definitely an unforgettable taste experience! It was also great to interact with local market vendors and see a side of Kuala Lumpur that most tourists miss. The small group size made the tour feel personal and relaxed, and Ian was attentive to everyone throughout the evening. We highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Kuala Lumpur and especially recommend requesting Ian if possible. He truly made the experience special and gave us memories that will last long after our trip.
