Itinerary
This is our meeting point.
From Potsdamer Platz, we will see a memorial to the American journalist Varian Fry and then proceed to the German Resistance Memorial at the Bendlerblock. This is the site from which Operation Valkyrie was directed and a memorial that now commemorates all Germans who opposed and fought against Nazism.
This station, of which a ruined original part remains, was one of the starting points for the deportations of Berlin's Jews. From there, we will take a train to reach Berlin's Jewish quarter.
We will tell you about the Jewish community in the 19th and 20th century and the history of the synagogue.
We will speak about different institutions which used to be in this street, as a school for Jewish girls and an orphanage in the Nazi Time.
We will see the old Jewish cemetery and a "Sammellager". The place where Jews were detained before their deportation.
The Museum tells the story of the workshop. The owner of the small factory, Otto Weidt, employed mainly blind and deaf Jews here during World War II. They produced brooms and brushes. Otto Weidt tried to protect them. You will listen to a story about braveness and humanity.
We end our on the market place.
