As Kyoto’s original small-group sushi-making experience, this workshop emphasizes depth, personal guidance, and authentic technique. Limited to just 8 guests, the class offers a relaxed, interactive pace with ample time for questions, hands-on practice, and individual feedback from a Japanese instructor. Guests build a strong foundation in sushi-making — from properly seasoning rice to shaping nigiri and rolling maki — using premium fresh fish and carefully selected local ingredients. The experience takes place in a beautifully restored historic townhouse near Kiyomizu-dera and Gion, providing a calm, refined setting in which to fully engage with the craft and enjoy the sushi you create.

We loved our sushi class! Kana was a wonderful teach, and we had such a lovely evening at this workshop. We learned how to make delicious nigiri and maki. Kana was very kind and friendly. This was our first trip to Japan, and joining Atelier Sushi's sushi-making class was one of the highlights of our journey! Kana shared how she learned this craft from her family and continues to run it as a family business today. Her passion and appreciation for what she does were inspiring, and her story resonated with me on a personal level. As complete beginners, we were quite nervous, but Kana was incredibly patient, kind, and encouraging. She explained everything clearly and made the entire experience fun and stress-free. We also loved chatting with her husband, Kerim. They both took a genuine interest in getting to know us and even recommended places for us to visit during our stay in Japan. What stood out most was how personal and welcoming the experience felt. It wasn't just a cooking class; it felt like being welcomed into someone's home and sharing a small piece of their culture. We got to make sushi while being guided step by step. The food turned out amazing. I would never order sushi but now I’m inclined to make my own at home.
