Itinerary
A typical itinerary inside the Vatican Museums includes the Pavilion of the Carriages, home to everything from centuries old horse-drawn carriages to vintage and modern cars really used by Popes past and present. You'll visit the Pinecone Courtyard, the Hall of the Maps (the "Oval Office" of the Pope centuries ago), the Gallery of the Tapestries, the Pinacoteca, Belvedere Courtyard, Room of the Muses, the Round Room and Candelabra Gallery.
This courtyard gets its name from the enormous bronze Pinecone sculpture that dominates it.
The Vatican Museums contains some modern art as well, including this famous sculpture: Sphere within a Sphere. Variations of this sculpture can be found in many settings around the world.
The most famous wing of the Vatican Museums, the Pio Clementino museum contains much of the Museum's most important highlights. Your guide will take you through the Room of the Animals, where you can spot the life-like statues of fauna from around the world. Head to the Octagonal Courtyard where a small fountain trickles in the background of famous statues like the Laocoonte and Apollo Belvedere. Don't forget to look at the Candelabra Gallery -- master painters decorated these ceilings to create the illusion of a 3D effect centuries ago!
Head with your guide to the Gallery of the Maps -- and get a perspective of the world how it was five centuries ago. These exquisitely detailed, hand-painted giant maps are a favorite of the Vatican Museums. See if you can find the Italian cities you have visited, or spot the nod to Christopher Columbus' journey to the Americas.
Raphael painted these rooms with incredible frescoes, originally meant for the private rooms of Pope Julius II.
No guides are able to speak inside the Sistine Chapel. However, your guide will prepare you in advance for your free time inside so you'll know what to look for.

Great guide, knowledgeable, and informative. Worth the admission, and just the right amount of time. A few more breaks for us senior people.
Great guide. Navigated is thoughtfully through all the queues and crowds.
Thank you so much for your kind review! We’re delighted to hear that you had a great experience with your guide and that the guide helped you navigate the queues and crowds smoothly throughout the visit. Thank you for choosing EcoArt, and we hope to welcome you again on another tour in Rome!
Traveled with two experienced and patient kids, and this tour was not for them. Our guide went into excessive detail about too many pieces in the Vatican. By the time our 2.5 hours were up, we had JUST reached the Sistine Chapel. The experience was very hot, very crowded, and after 2.5 hours we were spent (adults included!) We left the tour before seeing St. Peter’s Basilica. If you want an overview of the key historical pieces/places, this tour is not for you. If you’re an art or Catholic enthusiast wanting mass information on the Vatican, this tour is more your speed.
Dear Meredith, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry to hear that the experience did not fully meet your expectations. However, we would like to clarify a few important points regarding the itinerary. As indicated in the tour description, the guided portion of the experience lasts approximately 2.5 hours and concludes at the Sistine Chapel. Therefore, reaching the Sistine Chapel at the end of the 2.5-hour guided tour was in line with the scheduled itinerary and duration of the experience you booked. Following the Sistine Chapel, your guide would have assisted the group with the direct access to St. Peter’s Basilica included in your booking. Unfortunately, by choosing to leave at that point, you departed just before this final access could be provided. Regarding the level of detail, our guided tours are designed to offer historical and artistic context to the extraordinary collections of the Vatican Museums, rather than simply passing through the main areas. We understand, however, that every guest and family may have different preferences regarding the depth and pace of a guided visit. We completely understand your comments regarding the heat and crowds. Rome can experience extremely high temperatures during the summer, and many areas of the Vatican Museums are not air-conditioned. Unfortunately, both the seasonal temperatures and the number of visitors inside the Museums are circumstances beyond our control. We appreciate your feedback and are sorry that the experience was not the right fit for your family. Warm regards, EcoArt Team

Excellent experience. Our tour guide, Ricardo was extremely knowledgeable and provided great insight into the art collections in the museum galleries and how everything inspired the work of Michaelangelo in the Sistine Chapel. Having been twice before, this was definitely the way to do it, as we understood so much more. Ricardo was also extremely patient and reassuring of my elderly parents, ensuring we had regular breaks and didn’t feel rushed on the tour.
