Itinerary
A typical itinerary inside the Vatican Museums includes the Pavilion of the Carriages, home to everything from centuries old horse-drawn carriages to vintage and modern cars really used by Popes past and present. You'll visit the Pinecone Courtyard, the Hall of the Maps (the "Oval Office" of the Pope centuries ago), the Gallery of the Tapestries, the Pinacoteca, Belvedere Courtyard, Room of the Muses, the Round Room and Candelabra Gallery.
This courtyard gets its name from the enormous bronze Pinecone sculpture that dominates it.
The Vatican Museums contains some modern art as well, including this famous sculpture: Sphere within a Sphere. Variations of this sculpture can be found in many settings around the world.
The most famous wing of the Vatican Museums, the Pio Clementino museum contains much of the Museum's most important highlights. Your guide will take you through the Room of the Animals, where you can spot the life-like statues of fauna from around the world. Head to the Octagonal Courtyard where a small fountain trickles in the background of famous statues like the Laocoonte and Apollo Belvedere. Don't forget to look at the Candelabra Gallery -- master painters decorated these ceilings to create the illusion of a 3D effect centuries ago!
Head with your guide to the Gallery of the Maps -- and get a perspective of the world how it was five centuries ago. These exquisitely detailed, hand-painted giant maps are a favorite of the Vatican Museums. See if you can find the Italian cities you have visited, or spot the nod to Christopher Columbus' journey to the Americas.
Raphael painted these rooms with incredible frescoes, originally meant for the private rooms of Pope Julius II.
No guides are able to speak inside the Sistine Chapel. However, your guide will prepare you in advance for your free time inside so you'll know what to look for.

- Children aged 7-18 are entitled to a reduced entry fee (see tour and ticket pricing) and must provide proof of age.
- Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult
- A dress code is required to enter places of worship and selected museums. No shorts or sleeveless tops allowed. Knees and shoulders MUST be covered for both men and women. You may risk refused entry if you fail to comply with these dress requirements.
- Check-in is 15 minutes prior to the booked start time. Tickets are time sensitive and we cannot accomodate late arrivals.
- Guests with a certified disability of over 75% are entitled to free entrance to the Vatican and do not require a ticket. For guests who are not self-sufficient, free entry is extended to a companion.
- Important: St. Peter's Basilica is not included in all tour options. If you wish to visit the Basilica as part of your experience, please ensure you select a tour where it is explicitly listed as included.
- Please include all names as they appear on your passports when booking. Tickets are non-transferable and if the names on your booking do not match your ID you may be denied access and will not be due a refund. Any name changes must be communicated at least 72 hours in advance.
- Please bring an ID or a photo/copy of ID.
- Important: From January 12 to March 31, 2026, conservation work will be carried out on Michelangelo’s Last Judgment (Giudizio Universale). The Sistine Chapel will remain open to visitors; however, the fresco will be temporarily not visible due to scaffolding. We thank you for your understanding during this important preservation project.

I arrived at 7:15am. The queue for ticket purchase was not too long. I booked this event thinking we would have been in quickly, but still had to queue for quite a long time. I could not hear the guide very well, though she was really lovely. Personally I would have rather done the visit on my own. My Niece did on the same date and time and had a much better experience. My Daughters are visiting next month and I have recommended them to not purchase skip the line tickets. Just my opinion.

This is specifically designed to provide a more comfortable experience before the Museums become significantly more crowded later in the morning. While there is always a mandatory security screening for everyone entering the Vatican Museums, our guests use the dedicated entrance for guided groups. This means the short wait before entering is for the required security check only, rather than the general admission line, where visitors often wait for hours during busy periods. We're also sorry to hear that you had difficulty hearing the guide. Amazing experience. The earpiece was not the greatest so it made hearing Riccardo a bit difficult. Riccardo was very knowledgeable about the artwork and Sistine chapel.

Our Skip the Line tour was a great experience. In June the heat here in Rome is intense so being able to “skip the line” was a great way to save time, get valuable information from our AMAZING guide FABIO, and protect us from the intense heat and sunlight. I would highly advise this tour and this guide. He was SO knowledgeable and was able to speak English well. He was a wealth of information, funny, sincere with his big brown Italian eyes, and interesting. There is too much to see and so it helped to have Fabio point out specific things to look for and concentrate on. He knew his religion, art, artists, history, etc…

Tour guide was great and very helpful. Directions from Eco Art to meeting point were very helpful. Check in process was also smooth. However. tour didn’t live up to expectations. It wasn’t a good value. First, it said St. Peter in headline but fine print said they won’t take to St. Peter basilica. It almost felt like they were trying to sell a second day of tour. Moreover, tour itself was very commercialized with long winding way to get to Sistine chapel when it could have been a lot shorter and less painful on a hot summer day. Wouldn’t recommend.

Basilica access is included only for selected tours operating between 8:00 AM and 1:00 PM, excluding Wednesdays, and is always subject to availability. The specific inclusions of each tour are clearly detailed in the tour description at the time of booking. However, if you would still like to visit the Basilica, access is free from St. Peter’s Square by joining the general entrance line and passing through the mandatory security check. Regarding the itinerary, this experience is a guided tour of the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel. The Sistine Chapel is the final stop of the visit, not the only attraction included. The route through the Museums is designed to showcase some of the Vatican's most important galleries, artworks, and historical highlights before reaching the Chapel. For this reason, the itinerary follows the official museum route and cannot be shortened to proceed directly to the Sistine Chapel. We loved the attraction but were disappointed with our tour guide. He didn’t speak good English so we didn’t understand much. He skipped a lot of the attraction and when people asked questions he fumbled his words and didn’t know the answers. We learned more on the Big Bus tour which isn’t saying much. I would book with a different company if you want a good tour.
