Itinerary
We will begin with a brief historical introduction, to later begin a guided walking route, explaining the facades of the Cathedral with the squares and monuments that surround it. Thus we will see the facades of Platerias (the only Romanesque façade that is preserved), Obradoiro (masterpiece of Fernando de Casas y Novoa), Azabachería (main entrance door of the pilgrims in the EM) and Quintana (where we find the Holy Door and the Monastery of San Paio de Antealtares, founded in the 9th century to guard the tomb of the Apostle). And a lot of spectacular buildings and monuments, which we will discover together, through their legends and characters ...
We will pass through the Porta Faxeira, one of the main gates of the medieval wall and through which the pilgrims of the Portuguese Way entered. We will end our visit in the Alameda Park, a 56,087m2 garden, of great botanical and monumental interest, where we will learn about the unique history of the "Dos Marías" and will make a brief summary of other pieces of special interest that can be discovered, already individually, after finishing the visit.
Next, we will discover some of the most emblematic streets of the old town, such as Rúa Nova, with the church of Santa María Salomé, the only Spanish church dedicated to the Apostle's mother; the Rúa del Vilar with its beautiful arcades and the Rúa del Franco, where most of the gastronomic offer of the old town is concentrated and where its restaurants reflect the heritage of medieval tavern keepers.
We will continue our guided tour, appreciating the facade of the monastery and church of San Martín Pinario, which is the second largest monastery in Spain after El Escorial. We will also enter the area of the old Jewish quarter, reaching the square where the Holy Inquisition carried out its autos de fe.
We will pass through the Plaza de Abastos, the second most visited place in the city after the cathedral. And we will admire the fantastic 14th century portico of the church of San Fiz de Solovio. We will cross the Mazarelos arch, the only arch and door that remains from the old medieval wall.

A luxury to enjoy Santiago de Compostela with Mónica. In tough times for tourism threatened by intrusiveness and "freetour," it is certainly a gift to have the opportunity to take a guided tour with a professional. Mónica is charming, very pleasant and enjoyable. Without a doubt, I would repeat and especially recommend her since she not only guided us wonderfully through the historic center of the city, but also offered to recommend other visits and places that could be of our interest. Congratulations Mónica on your work.
We did a three hour private family tour and it was great. He explained the city part, culture and history as well as the legends part. The treatment was very pleasant, you rating the professionalism and experience. Fully recommended.
Monica, knows her trade! We loved the private tour and she took her time to show us all of Compostela’s secrets. Very personable and engaging! We loved her!!
Very interesting and enjoyable. Fully recommended. Unlike the supposed "Free Tour" that went in very large groups, we went in a very small group so the quality of the visit was excellent. It is also worth noting that Monica is an official guide and offers a contrasting information.
We loved the experience. Monica made it enjoyable and fun, like when she explained what to do if you see the Holy Company... and the incantation for the queimada... we took rating. To recommend and repeat with it any tour.
A great tour kicking the whole city. Monica knows all the corners and their stories, it is amazing detail. It's very worth it.
We were in August of this year and contacted Monica. Excellent guide, knows Santiago and all his secrets, even told us the ghost anecdote in a corner of the cathedral square, and we really saw it. We recommend it 100%.
We really enjoyed the visit because we could see the most important monuments of the city, in a fun and enjoyable way. Tour fully recommended.
Monica is an amazing guide, she is a walking encyclopedia! It shows you corners of Santiago that you wouldn't even notice. Very interesting and enjoy the tour
