Your guide will explain how these spaces were constructed, how they were used, and what they reveal about early Christian communities in Rome.
Continue to the Appian Way, one of the oldest roads of the Roman Empire. Walk along this historic route, where tombs and ruins line the path, and learn about its role in connecting Rome to the wider empire.
Stop at the Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella for an exterior visit and discover how Roman families used monumental tombs to reflect status and legacy.
End your tour at the Colosseum, where you will enter using a dedicated line with pre-reserved tickets that guarantee smooth access into the monument. Inside, your guide will explain how the amphitheater was used for public events, including gladiator fights and large-scale spectacles, and what it reveals about Roman society.

Our tour guide, Francesca was amazing, well spoken very informative and patient :-) . We had a million questions and she addressed them all! We booked almost last minute, not really realizing we are getting ourselves a private tour. Highly recommend! Thank you TakeWalks! Thank you Francesca !
We had to find last minute tickets to tour the iconic sites of Rome. Walks of Rome had our back!! Extensive and fulfilling tours with adequate transportation to help us through the summer heat. The tour guide Francesca was exceptionally knowledgable and was excited to answer any questions we had.
Siri was wonderful and so knowledgeable! Highly recommend this tour!
This tour with Walks covering the Catacombs, Appian Way, and Colosseum was an absolute highlight of my time in Rome. Our guide, Sev, was outstanding — probably one of the best guides I’ve ever had. His deep knowledge of Roman history, combined with his humor and genuine care for the group, made the entire experience engaging from start to finish. He didn’t just explain the sites; he brought them to life in a way that felt personal, accessible, and memorable. The itinerary itself is brilliantly designed. It takes you to places you might normally skip, but that turn out to be incredibly rich in history and atmosphere. The Catacombs and the Appian Way, in particular, offer a side of Rome that many visitors miss, yet they’re essential for truly understanding the city’s layers of history. Ending the day at the Colosseum was the perfect finale — arriving later in the day meant fewer crowds and a more relaxed, almost cinematic experience of such an iconic landmark. Overall, this tour offers a 360-degree understanding of Roman history, and with Sev as a guide, it becomes something truly exceptional.
