We met our guide Roberto at the St. Angelo Bridge in front of Castel Sant'Angelo (the mausoleum of Emperor Hadrian) and found to our delight, we were the only participants. We have hired Roberto as our guide many times; he customized the tour for us adding in a couple of churches and allowing us time to pray in each church we visited. We started near the Vatican and continued on our immersive 4 hour journey into the heart of Rome's history (particularly customized for us from a perspective of religion ). Our walk took us through Parco del Gianoicolo which honors Garibaldians who fought to defend Rome in 1849. The park offers one of the most evocative views of Rome's historic center. We continued on to Trastevere. On the way we visited the significant site where St. Peter was crucified. I've always loved this area of Rome. This is a very bohemian, working class area. Our focus here was visiting some magnificent churches and basilicas; Roberto delved into the historical significance of each place and took us to a few hidden gems (a monastery with a magnificent fresco of "The Judgement" and the ancient restored crypt of Saint Cecilia.) At the end of our tour we walked to Tiber Island and the Temple of Asclepius (now occupied by the church of San Bartolomeo). We continued to the Jewish Ghetto established in 1555 by Pope Paul IV. Roberto is a very engaging guide, willing to customize the experience based on our interests. We learned so much history on our tour and visited places we would never have discovered on our own. Highly recommend this tour and can't say enough about our appreciation for Roberto as our guide.
It is always an absolute honor to welcome you back! Thank you for such a beautifully detailed review of our walk and the high recommendation. I truly enjoyed tailoring this journey to your interests. Until next time!
Roberto took us to countless historical spots, Rome views and architectural areas. He was thorough and informative with each stop and we discovered spots we never would have found on our own. We highly recommend this tour! It takes you off the beaten path to find some Roman hidden gems.
Thank you very much for your kind review. I’m pleased to hear that you enjoyed discovering Rome’s hidden gems and found the explanations at each stop informative. I appreciate your recommendation.
This is definitely not a run of the mill tour. It exceeded my expectations in every way. Roberto's knowledge and passion for Rome's history is exceptional. I learnt so much during our time together. I found it so extremely interesting that the morning flew past. The tour includes some beautiful churches that I would not have found on my own. The walk through Trastevere and the Jewish Ghetto was fascinating with so much amazing history. Thank you, Roberto. I wish I had more time to do another tour with you.
Thank you so much! I’m thrilled you enjoyed the tour. Sharing Rome’s hidden treasures is always a joy. I have no doubt our paths will cross again for another adventure!
My Friends and I booked a Tour with Roberto )our tour guide) and it was just extraordinary. We had all been living in Roma for a while and knew most “touristic” places so we decided to book the beyond the Tiber tour to discover a different area. We started of at Castel Sant Angelo and walked to Gianicolo and then through Trastevere until the Tiber Island. Roberto made us see the new aspects in sights we already knew and because of his fantastic knowledge of the city we got to see some hidden sights. We spent an amazing afternoon and I am definitely planning on going on another tour of treasures of Rome tour and can only recommend to everyone else to do the same!
Thank you for your review! Glad you enjoyed the tour. We hope to see you again soon.
