We loved our cooking class with Rathika. She arranged an evening class for us as we only had 1 night left in Penang with a tour of the market and some local tastings. Her and her husband welcomed us into their home which was so special and the cooking class was brilliant. Rathika really knew her stuff and any questions we had about Malay or any other cuisine she answered! For an authentic and special experience in Penang don’t hesitate to get in touch with Rathika!
Dear Sam & Holly, Thank you so much for your wonderful review! It truly means the world to me. It was such a pleasure meeting both of you and having you in our home. I'm so happy we were able to arrange the evening class before you left Penang, and I'm glad you enjoyed exploring the local market, tasting the local food, and cooking together. Thank you for your curiosity and enthusiasm throughout the class. I really enjoyed sharing not only Malaysian recipes but also our food culture and traditions with you. It made the experience even more meaningful. My husband and I are grateful that you chose to spend part of your last evening in Penang with us. We hope the recipes and memories from our kitchen stay with you for many years to come. You will always be welcome back to our home whenever you visit Malaysia again. We'd love to cook with you again, share more family recipes, and create more wonderful memories together. Wishing you both safe travels and all the very best. Thank you once again for your kindness and support—it was a joy to host you! Take care and see you again soon. Warmly, Rathika
Rathika did an excellent job walking us through the local wet market and picking out ingredients to make a traditional briani dish. Her class was well structured and taught us the traditional method of preparing the dish including using her grinder that was handed down to her by 3 generations! We loved the food and the experience, would absolutely recommend!
Dear Jason & Kat, Thank you so much for your wonderful review and for taking the time to share your experience. It truly means a lot to me. I'm so happy that you enjoyed exploring the local wet market and learning how to prepare traditional Malaysian briyani from scratch. It was a pleasure sharing not only the recipes but also the stories and traditions behind them. It makes me especially happy that you appreciated using my family's stone grinder, which has been passed down through generations. It's a very special part of my family's cooking heritage, and I'm always grateful to share it with my guests. Hosting both of you was a real pleasure. Thank you for bringing such positive energy, curiosity, and enthusiasm to the class. I hope you'll recreate the briyani at home and think of Malaysia whenever you do. You're always welcome back to my kitchen whenever you visit Malaysia again. I'd love to cook together again and introduce you to even more traditional family recipes. Thank you once again for your kindness, your support, and for being part of this special experience and wishing you both good health and many wonderful adventures ahead. I hope to see you again someday! Warm regards, Rathika
That experience was just amazing! We stayed in a hostel in Georgetown when suddenly Rathika and her husband came in and asked us if we would be interested in a cooking class. Just one hour earlier we had been talking about how cool it would be to have a look inside local kitchens and learn more about Malaysian dishes. So that was a crazy coincidence. The next morning Rathika picked us up from the hostel and the three of us drove to a morning market to buy fresh vegetables, fish, and meat. After that we had coffee and a local breakfast together at the market. That was actually so nice, because it was a place where only locals were. Afterwards we went to Rathika’s house and started cooking. She even prepared turmeric milk for us because we had told her that we had a little cold. She was just so kind and heartwarming! During the preparation she explained so many things about the ingredients and the different kinds of flavors. We learned so much about Malaysian cuisine and culture, and we had the opportunity to meet such a wonderful person during our trip through Malaysia. Thank you so much for everything. For a moment I even forgot that I was in a foreign country because it felt so familiar and cozy, like being at a friend’s place. We wish you all the best, Rathika. Next time we are in Georgetown we will definitely let you know—we would love to learn even more from you!

I’m very glad you enjoyed experiencing a local kitchen and learning a little more about Malaysian food and culture. Hearing that you felt comfortable and cozy, like being at a friend’s place, makes me very happy. That is exactly the experience I hope every guest can have when they come to my home. Thank you again for your kindness and for taking the time to write such a lovely review. I truly hope to see you again when you come back to Georgetown. You are always welcome in my home! Take care and see you again soon. Warmly, Rathika

Hey Mitja Jus, Thank you so much for your kind words, it truly means a lot to me! 😊 I’m really happy to hear that you enjoyed the cooking class and the food, and even happier that you all had a wonderful time together. Creating these moments where people connect, laugh, and share food is exactly what I love most about what I do. It was such a joy having you and your family here, and I honestly enjoyed every moment as well - especially seeing the kids having fun in the kitchen! Those little smiles and excitement make everything even more special for me. You’re no longer just guests to me… you’ve become part of my little cooking class family and friends circle.
