Ferdinand’s was an excellent tour guide. He has a vast knowledge of Ostia and is very personable. I will use him again and refer friends too. A wonderful experience. Beth & Dev M
The tour guide was very knowledgeable. Thought Ostia was fantastic. As promised, we spent three hours at the site. I wish I had booked a tour with at least four hours at the site. There was more of the site to see and a short visit to the museum would have been nice. But again, our tour was the three hours promised.
Our guide Fernando and his driver Constantino picked us up and what a wonderful experience we had. Ostia Antica is a must do, especially with a guide a knowledgeable as Fernando The site is better than Pompeii because is has no crowds and Fernando really brought the city to life It was not hard to imagine that we were walking the streets amongst the ancient Romans. Highly recommended
It has been a very enjoyable tour of Ostia Antica. Our guide Fabio has answered our questions about the history of the city in a rigorous manner. Also about other centers of interest in the city of Rome. Highly recommended.
Our guide Fernando was knowledgeable and allowed us to ask as many questions as we liked. He car was great and it was the best tour we have ever had (and we have travelled extensively)
Tour guide was informative. If you want a quick get away from the city this is the tour for you. Left at nine was back by one. This place is great and so close to Rome. A little short but well worth it.
Hi js839 and thank you for your review. We take them very seriously and as a chance to improve our services. I'm glad the tour was well worth it. About duration, this is specified on the product when you book it. The tour lasts 4 hours as advertised on the page. The driving time is 1h 30 min round trip, which means 2:30 h of tour in Ostia antica. Same duration of my Colosseum and Vatican tour. Obviously the tour can last hours in Ostia if not days, but my experience teaches me that 2,5 h is the right amount of time especially in September when the temperature is still pretty high and humid! By the way, should you come back, I'll be happy to customize the tour and make it longer.
The three of us truly enjoyed our private tour of Ostia with Ferdinando. Ostia is as impressive a site as Pompei and Herculaneum in many ways. And Ferdinando is an awesome and informative guide -- highly reccomend!
Ostia Antica is a wonderful place. Comparable to Pompeii. An extraordinary visit to the past. A city-port that shows us, clearly, how the Roman way of life was in its heyday: commercial, cultural, social. It is a must-see on any trip to Rome.
Answered every question I had (I’m a biblical scholar- and he knew every detail I asked about). He was great at communicating before the trip, adjusted it to my needs, was thoughtful, and professional. Ferdinando helps you envision what life would’ve been like 2000 years ago, and took the time to provide lots of extra maps and illustrations which really brought the experience to life. In addition, he’s a great guy! can’t imagine a better guide!
My son's chose a trip to Italy to see the Roman ruins as his high school graduation gift. When I told him we would get a private tour of Ostia Antica with an archeologist he was thrilled. Very few tour guides could have lived up to his expectations, but Ferdinando was amazing and exceed them. If we saw an inscription on a piece of marble he would translate it for us. He has worked the excavation himself and told us not only about the history, in fabulous detail, but about excavation and preservation techniques used over the years. Plus it was his birthday!
