The most popular and highly praised walking tour company in Helsinki
For the brief historical review, we walk to the Senate Square, which has been the central gathering place for centuries. The Tour continues with a 20-minute ferry ride to Suomenlinna, the no 1. attraction of Helsinki.
We take a ferry to the Sea Fortress that has been in key role in development of Helsinki since 1700s. Your guide will reveal the secrets of this mysterious place. Suomenlinna Island is home to around 800 locals, as well as a UNESCO World Heritage site. This, one of the world’s largest sea fortresses, dates back in the mid-18th century and has been upgraded many times ever since. Built to be one of Stockholm’s outposts against the Russians, then conquered by them without even a shot and later having served as a prison – this island has had many faces. The excursion ends on Suomenlinna Island, where you can stay as long as you wish and travel back with your ferry ticket (the one is given to you at the beginning of the tour). Hopefully you are not in rush after the tour, because the island has sites to offer at least one hour or so after the tour. The ferry runs until very late so you can spend as long time as you wish on the island. The tour is organized in co-operation with Ehrensvärd-seura and your guide will be an authorized Suomenlinna guide.

We wanted to do a food tour and also to see Suomenlinna. We found this private trip and thought it looked great. We were picked up at the Hotel Kamp at 950am and walked down the Esplinade towards the port. We had a fun food tour exploring the old market and then took the ferry to Suomenlinna. We ended up getting back on the 1pm ferry. Overall an excellent half day tour.
My wife and I were visiting Helsinki from the USA and planned our short stay around the Taste of Helsinki & Suomenlinna tour. Green Cap Tours canceled it just one day before, with no real explanation — just a generic message saying they hope to see us “another time.” So far, we have not received any refund. We’ve traveled extensively and booked countless tours across the world. This is the first time any tour has ever been canceled on us, especially so close to the scheduled time and without a clear reason. This was not a minor change — it completely disrupted our limited itinerary, and we were left scrambling at the last minute with no support or alternatives. Green Cap is not a reliable company, and based on our experience, we strongly do not recommend them. If you care about your time and peace of mind while traveling, book elsewhere.
Katia was our tour guide for the first part and she was awesome! The tour was fun and informative, the food was tasty. I can’t remember the name of our guide on Suomenlinna, but he was great. Highly recommend this tour.
What a wonderful place nothing seeing before lovely beautiful and much more..may I suggest you go there and enjoy your family and friends.
This was our first tour in Helsinki after we arrived and it provided a great overview of the city, seeing the Cathedral, Market Hall, etc. The guide was very informative and we realized we would not have learned as much if we just did on our own. She customized to our small group (2 adults and 2 kids) and like that we could stay on Suomenlimna longer if wanted and not be rushed. Green Cap tours was easy to work with and I would recommend this tour!
