I highly recommend this private tour. Jose is knowledgeable and very experienced as a guide and paced the day in a way that felt tailored just for us. The palace was stunning and wine tasting with Carlos was fantastic- the wines were quality and the company and conversation with Jose and Carlos felt like spending time with friends. We learned so much about the history and culture of Sintra and hope to return someday. The beautiful coastline around Cascais was a perfect way to end the day. Great experience!!!!
Our day with Jose from Lisbon on Wheels was nothing short of unforgettable. It was our anniversary, and Jose made it feel truly magical from beginning to end. He thoughtfully customized the entire itinerary around what we love, and somehow struck the perfect balance, knowing when to keep us moving and when to let us linger and take it all in. What really stood out was not just his incredible knowledge of Portugal’s history, culture, and hidden treasures, but the genuine care he put into every moment. He shared stories, insights, and local gems that brought everything to life in such a personal, meaningful way. By the end of the day, it didn’t feel like we were on a tour, it felt like we were spending time with a dear friend who wanted nothing more than for us to have the best experience possible. We’re still in awe of how much we saw and how smoothly everything flowed. Chris and I will forever remember this day, and we’ll be reaching out to Jose every time we’re in Portugal. He’s not just an incredible guide, he’s someone we now consider a friend. THANK YOU Jose and Lisbon on Wheels!!!!♥️
Jose’ was an amazing guide for this tour!! He is very friendly and knowledgeable!!! He took us to so many sights that we wouldn’t have seen on our own. We highly recommend this trip but you must ask for Jose’.
A great trip for incredible value. Our itinerary was packed with interesting sites and lovely views of some areas surrounding Lisbon, including Queluz National Palace (a highly underrated gem of Rococo architecture), Cabo do Roca, Sintra, Cascais, and a wonderful wine tasting in Colares. Cascais was very, very busy but this is understandable as the Iron Man Triathalon was taking place there. But the true highlight of our day was our guide, Jose Ribeiro. As other reviews on this website will likely tell you, Jose was INCREDIBLE. He was punctual, accommodating, extremely knowledgeable and above all that, an extremely down-to-earth and friendly person with a great personality and backstory - talking to Jose about life and the history of the area - as well as his own history in Portugal - was fascinating and added so much to the experience. Jose also offered to customize the experience to deviate from the itinerary - for example, making recommendations to skip Pena Palace altogether due to timing and crowds - which became obvious as a great suggestion once we descended into Sintra - this saved us both time and frustration, allowing us to spend more time in other areas. I recommend this tour in order to see the attractions listed but even more so I STRONGLY recommend going with Jose and Lisbon on Wheels. You will have an absolutely fantastic time regardless of where you go.
Jose was amazing - encyclopaedic knowledge of Sintra and surrounds and wider Portuguese history! Complete flexibility on choice of our sites and tailored the schedule to suit us from the very start. Great energy and fun! Lovely person to spend a whole day touring with - no better guide out there!
The views were stunning! But our private tour guide Jose was AMAZING!! Very friendly and very informative. My husband and I learned so much from all the places we visited and much more! I highly recommend this tour and if you book this trip ask for Jose!!
What a let down. I booked this experience a few months in advance and was really looking forward to the day spent with my mother. Although our tour guide was nice and accommodating it was a national holiday and the wineries were closed and we didn't get to see several things on this tour. If I would have been informed of this I would have changed my dates or not booked at all. However the tour operator never informed us of this. We were told by our guide. We did not get to see Sintra, a UNESCO world heritage site, Castelo dos Mouros, or Park and National Palace of Pena. We did not see a winery and tasted a few wines in a wine shop. We stopped at a place called Apples Beach (English translation) for lunch at a place called Neptune. The food was over priced and not very good. The worst food we have had in Portugal was here and the service was poor too. It would have been nice to actually see and learn about the areas that we were supposed to see. However that didn't happen. For the money we paid this should have been so much better. As I said before our guide was fine however we did not get the activities we paid for and anticipated.
We had a great time on this trip which packed in so many things including wine tasting and Sintra. Jose looked after us so well and was really entertaining and interesting. Private tour in an air conditioned bus. Would highly recommend 😊
Jose or JJ was a brilliant guide bringing us to the best places at the best time. A great story teller and passionate about informing his passengers on a wide range of topics. We couldn't have asked for more!!
I booked this trip on a whim because we were only in Portugal for a couple of days so I wanted to optimize our time wisely. It turned out to be the highlight of our trip because of our amazing and well-informed tour guide, José! He started the journey by taking us to Pastéis de Belém to try the most delicious pastries we've ever had, and then ended it in the charming town of Sintra. Along the way, he took us to tour Queluz Palace and to sight-see at various stops. He even took us to a local seafood restaurant he frequents, and it was hands-down some of the best seafood we've had! I highly recommend this package. Request José if you can!
