The Lello Bookstore, also known as Livraria Lello & Irmão and Livraria Chardron, is a bookstore located in civil parish of Cedofeita, Santo Ildefonso, Sé, Miragaia, São Nicolau e Vitória, in the northern Portuguese municipality of Porto.

The Igreja do Carmo and Igreja dos Carmelitas, at the corner of Praça de Carlos Alberto and Rua do Carmo, are two churches in Porto that stand almost side by side. The two churches are separated by a very narrow (1m wide) house that was inhabited until the 1980's. The house was built so that the two churches would not share a common wall and to prevent any relations between the nuns of Igreja dos Carmelitas and the monks of Igreja do Carmo.

Liberdade Square is a square in the city of Porto, Portugal. It is located in Santo Ildefonso parish, in the lower town area. The square is continuous on its north side with the Avenida dos Aliados, an important avenue of the city.

20 min

São Bento Railway Station in Porto was opened to the public in 1916 on the site of a former Benedictine monastery. The structure emanates the city’s typical melancholy and nostalgic air. Although the train station is striking from outside, the real beauty lies inside. The main hall is breathtaking with over 20,000 tiles that reflect the history of Portugal.

The Douro is one of the major rivers of the Iberian Peninsula, flowing from its source near Duruelo de la Sierra in Soria Province across northern-central Spain and Portugal to its outlet at Porto.

A small taste of Porto

If you would like a quick trip to Porto to squeeze it in, this is the excursion for you. We went to the tower (climbed to the top, ticket not included) passed the book store (didn’t go in - over a 2 hour queue and you need tickets in advance), saw the cathedral from the outside (closed for a wedding) and went into the train station. We also had some free time to have lunch and do a port wine tasting. The ride from Lisbon is about 3 hours each way so you get about 3 hours in Porto.
