First time visited 36 years ago, but now still very interesting to see! A pure delight for carriage lovers!
Very interesting visit of floats and horse cars of Portuguese nobles and royalty, also exhibits coachman's outfits and accessories
¡Gracias por tu comentario 🌟 Nos alegra que hayas disfrutado de la visita. Esperamos verte pronto de nuevo 😊 Un saludo, Jo
Yes, you see many coaches. You also get to observe the excesses of royalty, changes in decorating style and advances in design and construction. Our ticket got us into the main modern museum and into the smaller one across the street in the former equestrian building.
A very interesting museum and one you should add to your “to-see” list. The oldest coach is from the 16th century. The ornateness of the centuries old coaches is amazing and quite the contrast to the more “recent” unadorned coaches. The prisoner coach would have been a very unpleasant ride for anyone over 5’5”. How the coach suspensions changed over the decades was also interesting - makes one glad we have cars with shocks.
Came to visit the museum with a tour it was OK if you are interested in older coaches and that type of history you will enjoy it
Dear traveler, Thank you for your feedback. We truly appreciate it and hope to guide you again in the future! Best regards, Olga
It's a pitty how they take care of such precious vehicles. They should have much more protection from light and other agressions.

Absolutely mesmerising. I wasnt going to go but so glad I did. Founded by Queen Amelia in 1908 it contains the carriages from Royal Household. Oldest dates to 1708 which took King Philip from Spain to Lisbon in two days! The 3 Ambassador coaches sent as envoy to the Pope are works of art. Magnificent afterwards King Pedro had them shipped back to Lisbon. This was so good I went back twice. Cafe is very good (you can go there before visiting its outside building) staff so helpful. Only criticism is the poor quality gallery of the monarchs. I dudbt have time to see it first time. There no information on them and itss not even portraits of them just Picasso style pictures . However this is magnificent to see Royal Household carriages. Cant wait to visit again!!
Dear Stephen, Thank you so much for your detailed feedback! We’re thrilled to hear you enjoyed your visit and can’t wait to guide you again. Best regards, Olga, Marketing Dept.
Great museum. The history of coaches in Portugal as well as its monarchy. Well worth the price of admission!
Dear John, We are glad you enjoyed visiting the National Coach Museum. We hope to guide you again in the future! Best regards, Olga, Marketing Dept.
The coaches were absolutely astonishing. Bravo to whoever had the foresight to collect these works of art for posterity. Having said that we paid extra for an audio tour which frustratingly we could not get to work. And of course who do you get to help you? You are a tourist in another country and there is no way in that moment to contact Viator. I have another tour booked with Viator the I may cancel since there is no help line should something go wrong.

Expensive collection and a very high quality display. Beautiful building to house the collection and and great descriptions of each item.
