Nara is an ancient capital city in Japan and offers a very traditional atmosphere which is different from Kyoto or Tokyo. This city is a very popular destination as an area where you can go on a day trip from Kyoto and Osaka. This tour is led by a National Licensed Guide Interpreter. This itinerary is just a sample. We will take a train to Nara at Kyoto station after meeting a guide at your hotel in Kyoto.
Nara Park is one of the most famous areas in Nara City. The vast area covers 660 hectares and is renowned for its free-roaming deer and world famous temples. You can buy special crackers and feed the deer.
The 25-meter-high structure is one of the largest temple gates in Japan. There are guardian kings standing in dark alcoves on both sides of the gate.
Todaiji is one of Japan's most famous and historically significant temples of Japan. The temple was built in 752 as the head temple of all Buddhist temples in Japan and became so powerful.
Kasuga Taisha is considered one of the most sacred shrines in all of Japan. As a place where numerous gods are enshrined, it attracts both locals and tourists seeking an iconic Shinto experience.
Isuien Garden is a beautiful Japanese garden located in Nara. It is known for its shakkei (borrowed scenery) technique, where the surrounding natural landscape, including Mt. Wakakusa, is seamlessly incorporated into the garden’s design. This garden closes every Tuesdays, so we go to different spots if you book this tour on Tuesday.

When tourists go visiting a country and choose a private tour guide to a city with great significance, the intent is to have insights, historical and cultural. Our tour lacked this completely. The guide was too new to the place to offer any insights. What the tour company missed completely is understanding what tourists like us expect from a private guided tour and selecting the right guide. Deeply disappointing. If I could figure out how to get to Nara and back by train, I wouldn’t need the tour at all. I don’t know what the tour company was thinking.

Our tour guide Akiko Okada made the day trip to Nara full of history, culture and a beautiful experience for my husband and I. We did not want it to end. She went above and beyond to share her knowledge with us and make us feel comfortable and engaged. We had several tours over the last 10 days and none were like this one. Jun was an amazing guide, extremely friendly and accommodating. We had an amazing time walking the temples, feeding the deer, and even made an additional stop to help me find a souvenir for my family. Everything was well organized, but flexible to our wants and pace.

Nara was a beautiful place and our tour guide was very knowledgeable. He took us to a great ramen spot and even made a quick stop at Fushimi Inari Shrine for us.

Such a lovely day trip. We were staying in Kyoto and Fumi picked us up at our hotel, guided us through the train station, and ensured we were comfortable. Conversation was very nice! Fumi was a joy to spend the day with. Seeing the deer was so special and Fumi had lots of great info to share with us. She took lots of great photos of us with our phones too! She took us to an excellent restaurant for lunch, and when we were tired from a busy week, she was so gracious to quickly adjust our schedule and ensure we made it back comfortably. We had never done a private tour guide before this trip but now, this will be a requirement when visiting new places! Highly recommend!!
