Very pleasant experience with Peter, the driver who picks you up at your hotel, and Allan the local guide. If some people may hesitate to try this experience for safety or hygiene reasons, I want to reassure them. I did not feel in danger throughout this visit (just take the basic precaution of not spreading these riches anywhere). We visit several school classes, the market, residential neighborhoods, a workshop that transforms domestic animal bones into works of art (purchase possible). Sometimes disconcerting, touching, unique visit; we have little chance of seeing something so original, without falling into voyeurism. Surprisingly, the mixtures of sheets sometimes give a certain aesthetic. However, remember to wear closed shoes and socks.

Discrimination as in colonial times

A consistently voyeuristic event. To show the people living in poverty who suffer because of our Western prosperity like animals. Kenya has so much more to offer, but you want to keep up the racial image of starving children and white saviors to feel special.

Not bad experience

We booked the Kibera Slum tour because it was advertised as a 6-hour experience, which seemed longer than other, cheaper tours. However, the tour lasted just two hours, which left us feeling short-changed. Had we known, we would have chosen another tour to get more value for our time. That said, we did appreciate having two guides. They were knowledgeable and offered a good perspective on the area, but the shorter experience still left us wishing for more. 内容に対して非常に割高です、もっと安いツアーがあるので別のツアーを選ぶことをオススメします。 また、トリップアドバイザーに6時間と記載されていますが、実際は3時間程度です。 対応してくださった方々は親切でした。

Must-Go tour with kind guides

I enjoyed with this half day tour with a driver, Stephen, and a guide, Ismael, both from Kibera community. They were so kind and friendly, and talked their own experience while walking around. It was great opportunity to see how people live and cope each other in Kidera slums. Many chances to talk to people there with good passion. It’s a must-go tour to know about Kenya! It seems like where you go depends on guide. Better to go with sneakers, because you go up and down in Kibera.

Operator response

Thank you Akira for reviewing the Kibera guided tour . It is good to hear how peaceful the slum is from the visitor's point of view. This will intern help other's who could be interested to go ahead and book for the same tour.

Awesome driver!

I was picked up from my accommodations right on time, and off we went to Kibera. Francis Ngei was amazing at taking me the the location where I would be guided through the slum. He gave me a drive-by mini tour of his own pointing to important landmarks and facts about Kenya. I appreciated his friendly and caring conversation, and he's an excellent driver. If ever you're in town, Francis should definitely be your driver. The actual tour through Kibera Slums was a good experience as well. Definitely recommended!
