Mouraria: The Multicultural District - Private Walking tour

Description
Mouraria is Lisbon’s Moorish district and is considered one of the most intriguing neighborhoods in Lisbon. The neighborhood has recently become a multicultural and bustling enclave, unlike any other part of the city. It has also been subjected to radical urban renewal, some still ongoing, and is often under public scrutiny. During this 3-hour private walking tour, wander into Mouraria's narrow streets, alleys, and romantic dwellings. Learn about the traditional music form of ‘fado’ and observe new street art that has taken over old areas. See how the area has changed throughout history and learn stories about its former inhabitants. This private tour can be customized to suit your interests and offers a more personalized experience than traveling with a group. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to see one of Lisbon’s most radically changing neighborhoods.

Great experience! Luis knows huge details about the neighborhood and the visit is made at our pace. Advice!
A Raquel e a irmã foram as minhas primeiras clientes portuguesas em mais de dez anos de passeios na Mouraria. Eu é que as devo elogiar pelo interesse e pelo empenho na defesa do nosso património urbano. Obrigado e até breve.
We had a tour through the oldest and most fascinating district of Lisbon. The stops were thoughtfully chosen and very diverse! With our tour guide, we felt safe at all times and learned to see the neighborhood from a completely different perspective. We were able to ask a lot of questions, and the tour was incredibly informative! We would do it again in a heartbeat and highly recommend it to anyone who wants to truly dive into the real history of Lisbon ✨
Thank you very much for your words so generous and stimulating. With such interesting and cultured visitors Lisbon is only winning. As promised I sent by We Transfer a dossier with a hundred or more old photos of the Mouraria (you have 3 days to download them). And please don't hesitate to send the questions you want to ask about the city urban renewal. I'll be glad to answer. Best wishes, Luis
Luis, our guide, did a wonderful job of taking us through the history of Mouravia. His passion for the area showed and he was very accommodating to our needs. While the area itself has gone through changes, the history is integral to the development of Lisbon. I recommend discovering the fascinating story of this barrio with Luis.
Thank you so much Debra for your kind words. I bet you and your husband will come back soon to Lisbon and I hope I may show you other interesting and less explored sides of the city. See you soon, Luis
A great tour of the old Moorish district of Lisbon. My wife and I just took this tour. Luis is well versed in the history, art, and architecture of the area and his passion and enthusiasm for his subject is evident. His English is fluent and sophisticated. I have a slight walking disability, making for a slow pace, but he conscientiously adjusted timing and pace accordingly. Thank you, Luis, for a wonderful afternoon.
You and your wife were not afraid of the bad reputation of Mouraria and immersed in the history and dynamics of the neighborhood as if you always lived there. Thank you, it was a real pleasure to go back to the old Lisbon with such a wonderful couple.
The tour was amazing! Luis was an excellent guide. He was very knowledgeable about the area and its history. Learned so much
Thank you very much for your sympathy, generosity and interest in Lisbon, particularly in Mouraria. I do not hide that it was a pleasure to meet you and share a little of what I know about the city. Always come back! Luis
Luis was very knowledgeable and provided very good descriptions of the the history and cultural aspects of the development of the Mouraria. He had many photos and descriptions to illustrate his tour. This area is not a main tourist area so it was very good to have a guide with such knowledge. Also, Luis speaks English well and expressed great concern that the pace was comfortable for us,especially since there was some rain and the streets could be slippery. If you have seen the main sights and want to see another side of Lisbon, I recommend this tour.
Thank you so much Marilyn for the kind words. Next time you come I'll borrow your "magic" umbrella! Best wishes, Luis
Luis’ tour was brilliant…I learned so much that I wouldn’t have gained from walking the area on my own. He also took into account my personal interests in urban renewal and planning and tailored the info to me. He was quick to communicate in arranging to meet. Highly recommended…this is a fascinating area.
It was a pleasure and a privilege to have a client who shares my interest in the challenges and dilemmas of urban renewal. Next time you’re in town, I’ll be glad to offer you another tour!
Learned a lot about the history of the neighbourhood. A lot of walking, especially uphill so be prepared.
Thank you so much for these kind words. It was a pleasure to guide you through the old town and I hope to see you again in Lisbon! Kind regards Luís
It was a very enriching visit with a very well prepared and knowledgeable guide. I also emphasize the ease with which he passed on his knowledge. Mouraria gained a new charm with what I learned during this visit.
Visiting Lisbon otherwise....is choosing Luis. Feeling the soul of a neighborhood, imagining the lives of its inhabitants, opening secret doors that lead to rare mosaics... is still choosing Luis. I just want to come back! THANK YOU
C'est moi qui remercie la compagnie et la gentillesse
