Historical Malacca Tour with Lunch from Kuala Lumpur
Description
A scenic 2-hour drive south of Kuala Lumpur takes you to Malacca, the oldest trading port in Malaysia which had undergone Portuguese, Dutch and British rule. Visit Stadhuys or the Dutch Square and take a walk up St. Paul’s Hill, see St. Paul’s Church and the 17th Century Dutch tombstones. Stop for a typical ‘Nyonya’ lunch before or after taking a stroll through the Antiques Row at Jonker Street. Other visits include the famous Portuguese Porta de Santiago and Cheng Hoon Teng, the oldest Chinese temple in Malaysia. Time permitting, photo stop at the Morten Village, a typical Malay village before return journey.

The focal point of the UNESCO Heritage zone, this attractive and elegant square is surrounded by Dutch-era buildings that have been painted crimson.
Pause for a photo at Porta de Santiago before hiking to the ruined church on St. Paul's Hill. It was built as a Portuguese fortress in 1511; the British took over in 1641 and destroyed it in 1806 to prevent it falling into Napolean's hands. Fortunately, Sir Stamford Raffles arrived in 1810 and saved what remains today.
The evocative and sublime ruin of St Paul's Church crowns the summit of St Paul's Hill overlooking central Malacca. Steep stairs lead up to this faded sanctuary, originally built by a Portuguese captain in 1521. The church was regularly visited by St Francis Xavier, whose marble statue stands in front of the ruin.
Jonker Street is known worldwide among serious antique collectors as one of the best places to hunt and bargain for antiques.
Malaysia's oldest still-operating Chinese temple, constructed in 1673, remains a central place of worship for the Buddhist and Taoist communities here. Traditional methods were used throughout, from the ornate roof ceramics to the painted tigers by the door. Though the temple is dedicated to Kuan Yin, the goddess of mercy, it is also a multifaith temple, with Buddhist, Taoist and Confucian elements and effigies.

Very nice tour from Kuala Lumpur.On the road very nice scenery The bus was not new but it was clean and the driver was professional.
I signed up for the tour in advance from Japan. It was Sunday on the day of the tour, so traffic was expected, but we were able to get back to the hotel earlier than we planned, without much traffic. There were 13 participants on the day, and we picked up around the hotel where we were staying, and as it was a large bus, we were able to sit back and enjoy sightseeing.
A must for anyone interested in history of the meeting of the West and East Asia. The guide, David, was very kind and well versed in history of the city.
We booked the all day tour to Malacca, with pick-up from our hotel. We then proceeded to a central collection point where all of the coaches or mini buses were allocated. Trip to Malacca was about two hours and uneventful. However, upon arrival in Malacca there was not enough free time - we were rushed from one area to another and therefore we regretted not having booked a hotel here in Malacca. Very crowded in places and the lunch, which we had expected to be a Nonya meal was a very bland Chinese meal with hardly any spices or garlic - obviously catering for Western tastes. Journey back took nearly four hours due to traffic so again wasn't great. Plenty of things to see in Malacca to justify a two day stay - very interesting museums and nice atmosphere along Jonker Street. Our guide was fine, although sometimes his English was a little difficult to understand, but he certainly knew about the history.
When I first got into the bus I was expecting a full bus but they were only like 10 people for the tour so it made me wonder. After visiting malacca, I learned that this place has plenty of history but nothing really to show for it. They are only a sights but small remnants and scattered. I was hoping for a full blown colonial city but it wasn’t. Our guide was Mica he was great, knowledgeable, and accommodating too. The lunch was pretty good also. It’s hard for me to recommend this place but it didn’t really wow me so I won’t.
On this trip in Malaysia, stopped in the ancient port city of Malacca. 80 languages were spoken here in the fifteenth century as European, Arab, Indian and other traders made this a stopping point till monsoon winds carried their ships onward to China. This is a cool placw for Asian arts and antiques, Understand that China may be embarking on a huge project to rebuild and modernize this port.
We saw a lot of nice thing from the past to today. The lunch at the restaurant was huge and good. Our guide Simon very good vulgarisator of the history.
We took a private Taxi from KL to Malacca for a full day trip, I would not say it was fantastic as the place is over rated. Other than historical sights, couple of things I would recommend is having fresh water melon juice at red square and coconut shake with ice-cream. Both very delicious.
Without detracting from the guide and driver, who were professional and kind, this tour is a bit overrated. The bus showed up after half an hour of delay, the tour started no earlier than 09.30. The last stop was the only really interesting one, lunch was ok, but in a Chinese restaurant. Too expensive for what you see and do.
