Itinerary
Founded in 1379, New College is a famous filming location for the Harry Potter movies. In addition to its gothic cloister and quad, which feature in The Goblet of Fire, New College contains the oldest dining hall in the University, a perfectly-preserved section of Oxford's 800 year-old city wall, and one of the most beautiful college chapels in either Oxford or Cambridge.
Enter the medieval Divinity School of the Bodleian Library (completed in 1488), a filming location in several of the Harry Potter movies. Gaze around the library's Old Schools Quadrangle, dating back to the 1600s, and featuring the subjects of Oxford's ancient curriculum. While entrance to the library reading rooms is strictly limited to Oxford University members, we will show you the exterior of Duke Humfrey's Library (the Restricted Section of Hogwarts) and the famous Radcliffe Camera.
Oxford's neoclassical Sheldonian Theatre (1669), masterpiece of Christopher Wren. The building where Oxford students are officially welcomed into to the University -- and where you will be sorted into Houses and given your wands!
Home to most of the University's special collections -- as well as a 16th-century 'Marauder's Map' of Oxfordshire, and a 17th-century printing press. Opportunity for a short toilet break.
Oxford's very own Flourish and Blotts! Blackwell's is home to the famous Norrington Room, a vast underground cavern with over three miles of shelving -- the most in a single room of any bookshop in the world.
Perhaps Oxford's most famous landmark, hear about the 400 year-old inspiration behind Hertford College's iconic Bridge of Sighs -- and the thematic links to the Prison of Azkaban!
The only college in Oxford even harder to get in to than Hogwarts! Could you pass the "hardest examination in the world" to gain admission? (Or, failing that, can you solve the final question of our Harry Potter quiz...)
