Very knowledgeable and professional guide. Beautiful walking area Beautiful guide made a friend for life.
Be prepared for a lot of walking on this one, but you will learn what it was LIKE in Harlem during the Renaissance, and even before and after. Our tour guide was AMAZING...she was an older lady, but could out walk us all! It does go over the 3 hours listed (at least ours did), but it was so interesting. You'll come away wanting to learn more on your own as well.
This review has us laughing and smiling all at once — thank you so much! We'll take "could out walk us all" as the highest compliment! 😄 We do put our hearts into every step of this tour, and Harlem's story is so rich that three hours honestly barely scratches the surface. We love that you're leaving curious and wanting to dig deeper — that's exactly what we hope for. Thank you for keeping up with us, and we hope to see you back on the streets of Harlem again soon! 🎉

We'll take "could out walk us all" as the highest compliment — she's been walking these Harlem streets for decades and every block has a story! 😄 Harlem's history is so rich that three hours honestly barely scratches the surface, and we love that you're leaving curious and wanting to dig deeper. That's exactly what we hope for. Thank you for keeping up with Doris, and we hope to welcome you back to Harlem again soon! 🎉
Thoroughly enjoyed it. Learned so much and I am inspired to go back again. The included lunch was excellent and Doris, the tour guide was awesome. She went above and beyond to help me find my subway station. I feel like I made a friend.

I echo what Zoe said in her review from a week ago. The amazing Doris was the best tour guide! She was so knowledgeable, friendly, and as a lifelong local, she had so many great stories to tell us! I would never have understood Harlem the way I do now without a tour and we are so glad to have found Doris and this company. Highly recommend and totally worth the price.
Thank you so much for this beautiful review! We're so glad you joined us for the Harlem Renaissance Walking Tour with Lunch, and it looks like Zoe's review from last week sent you our way — we love hearing that. And Doris — again! She keeps showing up in our reviews, and honestly, it's no surprise to us. As a lifelong local, she carries so much of Harlem's story inside her — the kind of stories you can't find in any guidebook. She shares this neighborhood the way only someone who has truly lived it can, and we're endlessly grateful to have her on our team. We'll be sure to pass your kind words along — she'll be so touched. Your point about really understanding Harlem through the tour means a lot to us. That's exactly what we hope every guest walks away with — not just facts and dates, but a real sense of this neighborhood's heart, its people, and its legacy. Harlem deserves to be understood, and sharing it properly is the whole reason we do this work. Thank you again for the high recommendation — we'd love to welcome you back anytime. There's always more to discover here. Carolyn
We spent 5 hrs with the amazing Doris who was so incredibly knowledgeable about Harlem! We got a chance to taste some local food, visited the Jazz Museum and stopped at so many spots that we wouldn’t have been to otherwise. Would definitely recommend this tour to anyone looking to learn about the history of the area!
Thank you so much for this wonderful review! Five hours on foot through Harlem is a real commitment, and we love that you were all in — that kind of curiosity is exactly what makes a tour like this come alive. Doris strikes again! She has a gift for pacing a long tour so every hour feels rich and unhurried, and it's clear she made the most of your time together. We'll pass your kind words along — she'll be thrilled. We're especially glad you got to taste some local food, stop into the National Jazz Museum, and discover those off-the-beaten-path spots. Those are the moments that turn a tour into something personal — little corners of Harlem that feel like you've been let in on a secret. The neighborhood has so many of them. Thank you for the high recommendation and for taking the time to share your experience. We hope you'll come back to Harlem again — there's always more history, more food, and more music waiting for you. Thank you, Carolyn
We had a wonderful time and experience with Jonathon and Caroline. Jonathon presented the history of the streets with lots of historical information!
Thank you so much for the kind words! We're thrilled you had a wonderful time on our Harlem Renaissance Walking Tour with Lunch. Jonathan and Carolyn make a fantastic pairing — when a group is large enough for us to bring two guides, you really do get double the stories, double the history, and double the love for Harlem. Jonathan has such a gift for bringing the streets of Harlem to life — every block has a story, and he shares them with the depth and passion they deserve. We'll be sure to pass your kind words along to both of them. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We hope you'll come back to Harlem again soon — there's always more to see, taste, and hear here. Thank you, Carolyn

What a great way to learn about the history of Harlem and its inhabitants! Our guide, a lifelong resident of Harlem, was friendly, welcoming, and incredibly knowledgeable. She showed us where distinguished Harlemites have lived, pointed out major cultural sites, and educated us about the culture, music, food, and architecture. Plus, we ate lunch at a soul food restaurant and sampled foods from bakeries, and other businesses. It was a highlight of our visit to New York.
Thank you so much for this beautiful five-star review! We're truly honored that our Harlem Renaissance Walking Tour with Lunch was a highlight of your entire New York visit. Your words about our guide mean everything to us—she embodies exactly what makes this experience so special. Having a lifelong Harlem resident lead the way transforms the tour from a simple historical walk into an intimate, authentic journey through the neighborhood's soul. The way she wove together the stories of distinguished Harlemites, the cultural sites, the music, the architecture, and the food created something truly unforgettable. And what a joy that you experienced the complete sensory and cultural tapestry—from the soul food restaurant to the bakery samples and local businesses. That's Harlem at its heart: history, culture, and community all together. Thank you for letting us be part of your NYC experience. We'd love to welcome you back to explore even more of this remarkable neighborhood! With gratitude and joy, Welcome to Harlem
My wife and I had to delay our first tour due to illness, and so we signed up for this one on our return trip to New York, and it was not only a delight but a dream. Doris was a wonderfully thorough and astoundingly lovely tour guide. A true local, she led us around the neighborhood while greeting friends around Harlem and asking questions about us and our time in New York. She pointed out all manner of interesting locations; houses of Renaissance legends like Zora Neale Hurston and Marcus Garvey, the former locations of the Cotton Club and the Savoy, and current projects like the restoration of the Apollo and the Schomburg Center. Lunch was delicious, a soul food buffet with some of the best mac and cheese and collards I've ever had. We gratefully went an hour and a half over our expected time, and only had to cut _that_ short because of prior engagements. I feel very lucky to have met such a knowledgeable and charming person, and even luckier to have been given a glimpse into the history of one of the most dynamic and interesting places and times in America. We owe Doris a return trip to complete the second half of the tour, and I think it's well worth your time to take a trip yourself.
What a beautiful review — thank you so much for taking the time to write this. We're so sorry your first attempt at the tour was sidelined by illness, but what a gift that you came back for it on your return trip. That kind of commitment to Harlem means the world to us. Doris is, in a word, Harlem. Walking these blocks with her isn't just a tour — it's being let into a neighborhood through someone who belongs to it. The fact that she was greeting friends along the way, asking about your time in New York, and pointing out everything from Zora Neale Hurston's and Marcus Garvey's homes to the former Cotton Club and Savoy, to what's being restored at the Apollo and the Schomburg — that's the full Harlem experience. Past, present, and future, all in one walk. We'll be sure to pass your kind words along to her; they'll mean so much. And the soul food buffet — the mac and cheese and collards really are something special. There's nothing like sitting down to a real Harlem meal after walking through all that history. Going an hour and a half over is pretty much a badge of honor around here — it means the stories kept coming and nobody wanted to leave. The thought of you coming back to "complete the second half" is music to our ears. Doris will be delighted. Harlem always has more to give — more music, more history, more stories — and we'd be honored to welcome you back whenever you return to New York. Thank you again for such a warm and generous review. Safe travels until we see you again. Carolyn
