Cradle of African-American culture and bastion of the struggle for equal rights, Harlem is no longer the ghetto it was in the 1970s. On the contrary, it has become one of the most dynamic neighborhoods and trendy New York! And even if it was done at the cost of a certain gentrification (gentrification), the district has preserved most of its cultural heritage: street art, hip-hop, gospel, jazz and soul food! We can't count the number of personalities who were born or lived in Harlem: Louis Armstrong, James Baldwin, Malcom X, Sugar Ray Robinson, Marcus Garvey… So many Harlemites who have contributed to the exceptional heritage of this district steeped in history. From Baptist churches oozing the fervor of gospel masses to the legendary hall of the Apollo Theater, from the small streets formed of typical brownstones to the prestigious Columbia University ... succumb to the discreet charm of Harlem!

A big thank you to Audrey, a passionate guide who immerses us in the heart of the stories. This tour contributed to enhancing my stay. I highly recommend it with New York in French. It is a great opportunity to discover the places and stories with a different perspective. We learn so much and we come out changed. I really enjoyed it. Thank you, Audrey, for this passion and the new perspective you were able to convey. Thank you, NYEF, for your attentive and passionate guides.🤗 Flora Angèle June 2026
Our guide Audrey was very friendly and introduced us to this wonderful neighborhood of Harlem that she knows by heart, as well as its history. Thank you!
We did this tour with Aymeric and we were delighted! I was alone with my 19-year-old son who absolutely wanted to discover Harlem, and we did not want to just pass through this neighborhood without understanding its history. We were served beyond our expectations!! Aymeric is an extraordinary guide who knows the history of this neighborhood perfectly and has plenty of anecdotes that take us back to a not-so-distant past. We also fortuitously stumbled upon Mother's Day Sunday when the neighborhood was lively and very festive... a timeless moment that we appreciated so much! We fell in love with Harlem for what it is now and what it has been in the past... Aymeric conveyed all of that to us in just a few hours! It was not just a simple stroll, and for that reason, we do not regret our choice and highly recommend this visit! We loved it so much that we returned a few days later to explore on our own, but much more enlightened thanks to Aymeric's explanations! Thank you to him 🫶!
Small group perfect for good interaction with the guide. The history of Harlem is so rich that a guided tour is a must. Very good organization by Voyage en français.
This Harlem tour is one of the wonderful moments of our trip to New York. Thank you to Aymeric, our guide, who shared a bit of his passion with us. His explanations and energy transported us during those few hours. We recommend this tour without hesitation.
Very enriching visit. Aymeric is very kind; he knows his neighborhood and the history of Harlem well. There are plenty of moments when he revisits the history of the neighborhood that help to better understand the history of the United States and African Americans. I really appreciated the emphasis placed on music throughout the tour. I recommend taking this tour with Aymeric.
A guide who talked for 3h30, interesting things (and others less). In guided tours for me there is visit, we must have seen 5 things within 2 km... Otherwise we would stay still standing or sitting... But if I just wanted the story, there's the internet, there's the shows and I'm walking around myself... Because make an appointment on site plan so few things, probably nothing more to see!!!, no interest. Create an app where people can travel 2 km on their own with audio. Would be much more convenient... To meditate. Too expensive and especially too little time to plan so little.
We had the chance to discover Harlem with Aymeric and this visit was a real favorite. Passionate, cultured and extremely friendly, he introduced us to the neighborhood with incredible energy and authenticity. You can feel he knows Harlem’s history, culture and soul perfectly, while sharing lots of exciting anecdotes and great addresses. The visit was enriching, friendly and perfectly paced. Thanks to him, we saw a Harlem alive, warm and far from clichés. His professionalism and good humor really made the difference. We enjoyed this experience so much that we immediately resumed another visit with him to discover Lower Eastwood side. Once again, everything was on top. If you are looking for a passionate guide and an authentic experience, we recommend Aymeric with your eyes closed!
This visit allowed us to discover the history of this neighborhood in full renewal. Betty knows the neighborhood very well and she had lots of very interesting anecdotes as well as the whole neighborhood history very well documented. I highly recommend this visit with Betty.
Super tour hyper documented by Aymeric, our darling now for group tours. French passionate about his subject. Bcp of personal work to share his knowledge about this neighborhood that from our head had bad press. Aymeric changed our minds. Thank you again!!
