Itinerary
This gigantic market is vibrant! Explore its three floors bursting with sights, sounds, and enticing aromas. Be prepared for a sensory overload of colorful crafts, fresh produce, and delicious food stalls, a fully-immersive experience of engagement with Guadalajara's local community. Since this is a private tour -just for you and your companions- we can go at our own pace. There’s an endless variety of souvenirs and handicrafts, and we can take as much time as you need to find the perfect items. As part of the culinary experience we will try: 1. Tortas ahogadas: a tomato salsa-drowned pork carnitas sandwich. 2. Tacos de barbacoa: slow-cooked marinated beef, served in grilled tacos. 3. Tejuino: a cold beverage made from fermented corn. 4. Artisanal candies and/or seasonal fruits. To spare you the hassle of dealing with local currency, tipping customs, and making change, the food at the market is already included. All dietary preferences are thoughtfully considered!
On our journey from the market to the birria restaurant, we'll spend 1-hour exploring Guadalajara's iconic landmarks and architectural treasures. Highlights include the majestic Teatro Degollado, the historic Founders Plaza, the city's first Franciscan Mission, the grand Palacio de Gobierno, and the stunning 16th-century Cathedral with its lively surrounding squares. This experience will immerse you in the city's rich history and vibrant culture. As we stroll, I’ll share insightful context that will deepen your understanding of Guadalajara’s rich history, its evolving present, and the challenges shaping its future. Keep in mind, this is a private tour, so we can pause anytime to take a break, enjoy a coffee or ice cream, and capture as many photos as you'd like.
This plaza connects nine streets and is home to the city's oldest restaurants. The house specialty at Nueve Esquinas is birria, a juicy and delicious hearty meat stew, served with hand-made tortillas, cilantro, onions, lemon and salsa. Before concluding the tour, I’ll be happy to share personalized recommendations for activities, restaurants, bars, and fascinating areas of the city to explore further.

Diego was an awesome guide and the perfect person to introduce us to Guadalajara. His passion for the city shines through in every stop, from its history and architecture to its incredible food scene. The food was amazing, and Diego's connections with the local food market outlets made the experience feel really authentic. He's friendly, engaging, and happy to answer any question you throw at him. It was great to share some drinks together too as we watch a game of the FIFA World Cup. One tip: come hungry, but pace yourself, there's a lot of delicious food along the way! Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Guadalajara.
Thanks so much, Anthony! I really appreciate you taking the time to leave such a detailed review. It means a lot to me. I had a great time showing you around and watching the game with you all. I hope you had an amazing rest of your trip in Mexico!
This is the best food tour I have experienced. My husband and I have traveled a lot and frequently start with a walking and/or food tour and have always had fun but hands down the knowledge, expertise, desire to support local economies and friendliness that we experienced on Diego’s tour was out of this world!
Gracias Lindsey! It was a pleasure meeting you and Jimmy. I hope to see you both again soon!
Diego was a great guide, clearly a local known by many of the people around! Knowledgeable about food, history, and politics of the area and happy to answer all questions!
Thanks a lot Victor! If you're ever back in GDL don't hesitste to reach out.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time with Diego learning all about Guadalajara and sampling its delicious dishes. Diego is super engaging and really knows his stuff - he is knowledgeable about his city, its rich history and architecture as well as its food culture. He is on a first-name basis with the friendly teams at the specialty restaurants we visited (he’s been going to many of the places on the tour since he was a kid). A word of advice - pace yourself during the tour. There are so many delicious things to try, you’ll want to save room for them all!
