Full Day Tour to Gallipoli, Galatina, Coast, Beaches and Winery

Description
This tour will take you to discover the lovely Salento towns of Gallipoli and Galatina starting from Lecce and crossing the peninsula among typical villages and vineyards, also stopping, as an optional choice, in one of the most important Salento wineries for a tasting experience. There will be no shortage of halts along the Ionian coast for fully enjoying the breathtaking views that will await you. The journey will go on heading to a wonderful beach where you can swim before the visit among narrow alleys, shops and sea views of which Gallipoli will surprise you. In the case you’ll choose not to attend the wine tasting, or depending on the cellar unavailability, like on Sundays, we'll spend more time in the place you'll prefer or we’ll stop in Nardò to visit its nice historic center.

Itinerary
Transfer from Lecce to Galatina 30 minutes. We’ll stop close to the main square where you can have your independent visit to the Baroque church of “San Pietro”. Nearby, the small chapel of “San Paolo” hosts a well that, according to tradition, was able to heal people bitten by poisonous tarantula spider. That's why the town is renowned for the magic and esoteric ceremonies of "Tarantismo", from which the local folk dance “Pizzica” started. Galatina is also well known for the delicious pastries produced for generations in the local pasticcerie. In the most famous one you can delight yourself by tasting the famous "Pasticciotto”.
Walking along Galatina old town you can find out several aristocratic palaces until reaching the late Romanesque Basilica of Santa Caterina d'Alessandria, built in 1390. The interior contains frescoes by artists from "Giotto school", that make the church the second in Italy, after San Francesco d'Assisi Basilica, for its pictorial cycles.
In Nardò you can choose to have an independent wine tasting in one of the most important local wineries. The cellar offers tasting experiences of wine, produced from original vineyards, paired with appetizers; Taralli and focaccia bread come with 3 glasses tasting, adding typical cheese in the 4 glasses one. The full experience with 5 glasses of wine includes a cold cuts platter too. The cost goes from 30 to 40 euro/person and will be paid in the winery as your needs (advance booking is required, closed on Sundays and depending on availability). In the case the wine tasting won't be done the time will be spent in other stops, like the beaches, or for visiting Nardò historic center, a beautiful medieval town with lot of historical baroque buildings, the castle, the square and many churches. The most beautiful is the Basilica Cathedral founded in the 11th Century, but all are unique.
Transfer to the Ionian coast passing by Santa Maria al Bagno, with its lovely city beach and nice restaurants by the sea (possibility to stop here for lunch), the four towers fortification, built in Aragonese time to protect a drinkable water source, and the broken mountain, the coastal route heading the white beaches of Gallipoli.
Stop at Rivabella beach. Here we'll stop in a nice pine forest where, going through it, you can find out a stunning free beach as well as private lidos, so bring your swimsuit and towels for being delighted by an amazing sea.
Gallipoli, the Ionian pearl, is divided between the modern city and the historic one. The ancient town is located on a little island, connected to the mainland by the bridge which ends with a Greek fountain, the oldest one in Italy. Here you'll have free time to discover the historic center characterized by narrow streets with local handicraft shops, lovely baroque churches and aristocratic palaces. Also, you can walk along the castle walls enjoying a drink in some nice terraces by the sea, or having your brunch maybe tasting the typical sandwich "Puccia" dressed with sea food specialities.

What a way to feel like a local . Roberto our guide was the best . In his own car we set off for Galatina , he explains our day , what’s in store for us . We visit the basilica , stories of spiders , it’s all an experience. Next stop the winery. This is a must , lovely people who explain how they grow and develop their own wine . Roberto sticks his head in to see if we’re all ok and advises what’s good . We move on to the beaches and finish at Gallopoli with a walk in the old area. For those that have been to Taormina , you must come here , it’s just as good if not better . Roberto explained all that was needed and such a great guide . I felt like a VIP the whole day … don’t miss this one !!!!
A great full day trip with the best experiences. A little history, a beach visit and a great tasting room stop. Our driver was so professional and accommodating. Bob was the best.
We had a great day out with Bob, he provided a great itinerary and experience of Puglia. The winery visit was a great highlight and seeing the beaches of Puglia was really good. Both Galantina and Gallipoli were really interesting towns to explore. Bob was a great guide and we really enjoyed spending the day with him. I would highly recommend this tour.
Three of us had a fabulous time with Bob on our tour. He is a great driver and so considerate of our needs. We heard the perfect amount of information about each place we visited. Our wine tasting was fun and accompanied with delicious snacks. We loved Bob and our tour.
Excellent trip to areas south of Lecce. Roberto was an entertaining and informative guide. We chose the winery visit and it was superb. The Frescoes in the basilica no were amazing!! Beautified views along the way!
Roberto and his wife found a very easy meeting point, a 2 minute walk from our hotel. They drove us to 3 different towns and we had time and freedom to walk around. Roberto gave us a small map with a walking route for each town with different sites to stop at. It was a nice pace because we set the tone and he goes with what you are looking for. We really enjoyed our day.
Bob was great well organized and very friendly
