Itinerary
After a 45-minute drive from Lisbon (central pick-up location), we’ll arrive in the enchanting town of Sintra, with our first stop at the stunning Pena Palace, perched high in the mountains. Our adventure begins with a guided, gentle hike through the magical Pena Park—a lush, living masterpiece. This route offers a peaceful escape from the crowds at the main entrance. Once we reach Pena Palace, we’ll guide you along its vibrant terraces, sharing insights into its rich history and architecture. We believe the true beauty lies outdoors, so we don’t plan to visit the often-crowded rooms inside.
Next, we’ll drive down the mountain to Sintra’s charming old town, near the National Palace. You’ll have free time to enjoy lunch and explore the area at your own pace.
After lunch, we’ll regroup for a visit to the enigmatic Quinta da Regaleira, where we’ll wander through its fountains, grottoes, and the famous Initiation Well.
The "cherry on top" is the drive by Sintra Natural Park, stopping at Cabo da Roca, the tip of Continental Europe, and discovering coastline secrets along the way.

Important Information
- Infants and small children can ride in a pram or stroller
- Specialized infant seats are available
- Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
- Monument tickets are not included. The activity provider will purchase tickets to Pena Park (note: we do not visit the interior rooms of Pena Palace) and Quinta da Regaleira for you in advance. Please have €32 in cash per person ready for reimbursement.
- There will be free time for lunch (not inlcuded) at the old town. Options vary from a quick on the go meal (8€), to a menu restaurant (25€).
- Sintra has a micro clima, and it is usually colder than Lisbon. Please bring appropriate clothing.
- Bring comfortable shoes. This tour involves plenty of walking. We will be walking up and down hills, including stairs.

Our tour guide, Rute, was amazing! As we were the only two participants on the tour that day we had a private tour of the sites. Our guide thoroughly explained the history of each location and access to the sites was prearranged so we didn’t have to worry about anything. Rute made sure that we made the best use of the time we had at each location. This was our favourite day of our entire vacation.

We had poor weather conditions but nevertheless our host Diogo gave us a full day of his total attention. Everything we did was made super interesting by his attention to detail and extensive knowledge about all we saw. Could not fault the trip and would highly recommend; also excellent value for money. What a magical day! The park walk was enchanting and lunch in the village was exquisite. Rute only made the day so much better with her awesome personality, her great story-telling and her attention to her guests. This tour is a must-do and Vagabonding Lisboa would be a fabulous choice for your host for the day.

Rui was an amazing guide and host. Though we had our hearts set on visiting the Initiation Well, he reached out to us in advance that this will no longer be included due to the new rules in place and offered a 100% refund. However the alternatives he had in place was (in my opinion) MUCH better than standing in a long line (for at least an hr) to see the Initiation Well for 4 minutes. Breathtaking views and amazing story telling made this day memorable. Thank you Rui!

Our guide was amazing on this small tour! We explored nature and saw Sintra. We walked a lot but it was all at a pleasant pace. I was amazed and all of the beauty we experienced!

Went with my partner on this experience and I have to say Rute was the highlight. We had a couple tours in other places in Lisbon and nothing compared to her. She made us laugh and answered every possible question we had ! Sintra is beautiful in itself but I highly recommended booking a guide as you learn so much about what you’re seeing and ask for Rute !
