Domus Aurea (Golden House) of the Roman Emperor Nero Guided Tour

Description
Take advantage of a unique opportunity to explore one of the most exclusive ancient sites in Rome throughout a special guided visit to the opulent Golden House of Nero. Experience the magnificent architecture of the notorious emperor’s vast palace, which was a vivid symbol of his immense ego. After a fire devastated the capital of the Roman Empire in 64 A.D., the emperor had his architects fashion an immense dwelling over the smoldering remains of the devastated city. What they came up with was awe-inspiring, with scarcely believable highlights including a rotating dining room open to the starry night sky and a massive artificial lake. In 68 A.D., the emperor’s wicked ways caught up with him and he was forced to commit suicide. As you make your exciting descent into the eerie excavated remains of Nero’s Golden House today, you’ll be journeying back in time to the extravagant heyday of the Roman empire. Learn all about the fascinating life and times of Nero in the company of a guide.

We could never find the ‘redemption point’ for this tour to get our tickets verified. Called the customer care # but she could not help Is. We walked so long trying to find it , asking directions…the. It was too late. When I called back after the 1st time it always went to a response in Italian. We even went early to give ourselves time. The signage is terrible in Rome…lots of construction going on. My husband was so looking forward to this particular tour.
We were extremely disappointed. We received an email that our tour entrance time was changed on the day of the tour. Then the tour guide did not show and left a group of us standing at the gate with no tickets.
It’s important to clarify a few details here. The tickets were sent a day before the tour, along with clear instructions to arrive 5 minutes early. Despite repeated emails and even phone calls, you did not respond, and unfortunately, without checking the booking confirmation voucher with detailed instruction , it’s easy to miss essential details. The timing adjustment was only 15 minutes, and every other guest who followed the instructions was able to join the tour. When instructions are ignored, there’s a risk of confusion – but the responsibility lies with the guest to be informed and prepared.
Massive structure found in the heart of Rome. Amazing talent and capabilities in the architecture of so long ago. This is a must for a visit to Rome.
So true! The sheer scale and brilliance of the architecture still amazes us today. Absolutely a must-see when in Rome. Thank you!
I know it's hard to speak a second language but our tour guide did not know enough English to be able to inform the group. He also repeated the material that was in the opening video right before we saw the opening video. He also focused too much on the architecture and spoke very little about the historical context of Nero's reign.
